Private HGV insurance suggestions please!

I've just taken the plunge and bought a great big Mercedes Vario 814 van to convert. Realistically this is going to take a while so can anyone suggest a good HGV insurance provider to cover me until the conversions finished.
Thanks in advance.

I just up plated mine, so thanks for asking this , I so look forward to the great advice it hopefully will generate :)

Try the Co-oP, they insured my Iveco while i did the conversion and then reduced the premium once it was finished, dont know if they cover HGV but worth a try, they were very helpfull when i explained what i was going to do.
Hope you get fixed up.
Hope you have many happy hours doing the conversion.

I think Adrian Flux Brokers or Comfort could be worth approaching, some of the insurers they use will give you up to 3 months to convert. It can be difficult getting insurance for a HGV self conversion, even when you reclassify the van as Motorcaravan Private HGV online quote application forms can include restrictive clauses such as max. engine capacity 3 litres, MAM 3.5t. It's often preferable to call direct. The Coop will likely insure you but under a Private Car basis, that is, excluding the extra cover benefits you'd get with a specifically written Motor Caravan policy.
Don't forget to fit seat belts as I did when reclassifying as MOT Class 4!
And that the DVLA put you into the lower VED bracket as they bloody well forgot in my case!
