Power Packs

I have just discovered power packs and am wondering if anyone can rate them?
I thought I'd need to get a spare battery for longer trips, but am thinking these could be a better option. They are cleaner, more manageable (will be easier to store and charge), and I am particularly excited about being able to use a 3 pin plug when wilding it! It looks like the option is either 3 pin or usb.

These links show the most likely candidates so far, but I can't interperate the info into usage.

it looks like a posh invertor to me, how do you recharge it? looks good tho,

Do the calculations on what appliances you want to use - one of them had only an 8AH battery. The others had 40AH which is not much as in reality you'd lose voltage below 12V once the battery was half drained.

Just an addition to Rogers comments. These are the figures when brand new. In six months you may not be getting any where near what was quoted. There is a good reason a leisure battery is great heavy beast of thing.

I have no leisure battery nor any scope to fit one. Instead I use the Ring 210 40ah powerpack and, used regularly for the last 8 months, it's served me well for charging low-drain items such as powering my netbook, recharging my phone and powering a 12v electric blanket in chilly weather.

It's not the perfect substitute but it is the next best thing when it's not possible to have a conventional leisure battery - and it's possible to charge it via a 12v lighter socket while driving.

I have the last one. It's ok for jumping an average car, but it wont even turn the van over. As for leisure use, when i first had it i plugged my 12volt TV in as a test (so not even using the inverter) and it lasted just under an hour.

to overcome the shortcomings of the big portable power packs, i bought two of them. They are good to weigh down my romahome and much more flexible than an old fashioned leisure battery. Having bought 2 different brands, i will let you know which is the best, one day
