Not sure what you mean by sneaky toll system. You are welcome to it, we weren't very impressed with Portugal or with their sneaky toll system especially. Spain does have tolls but not as many and they are straightforward to use.
With you on that. Five week trips in my case, health insurance time limits, unless cheap flights are availableDependent on the travel/virus situation in Scandinavia in 2021 ????
If Sweden is nogo ( as it may be) we will look at a mini tour (3 months or more in allowed) France Spain and Portugal ( and back )
Who knows ?
Gonna be next year. Or 2022, 2023....... 2045, I wish.Nothing open in Scandy after August !
Lots of excellent wilding !
Lots of driving !
Never heard that one before, You should give us more details so we can avoid the same thing happening to us, where in Portugal did this happen and were you given any warning ?I received something like a 200 euro fine from Portugal for parking up in the same place too long. Threw it in the bin and bought a new van - that'll teach em.
Easy to pay really on line or buy your card from post office or service station on the pay road register it with you reg # by text from your phone .Today I received a demand for £14 for toll charges in Portugal!
We thought we had fallen foul of the system mistakenly passing through a green lane entering the Porto ring road. When we asked later how to pay and preempt a fine we were advised to go to the post office. The post office said “sorry but you can’t pay here, our system only works with Portuguese number plates. Go home and wait for the post, which will probably never come because most get lost in the system“. Not happy with this I rang round various government departments and agencies, one referring me to the next and so on, the answer always the same, it’s not us but don’t worry the system is so fragmented and chaotic you’ll probably get lost in the system. Guess what...we got lost in the system! That system isn’t on all entry roads into Portugal. Our first year we stopped and entered our details. The next year we didn’t bother. If you do it by mistake use a post office to pay. We do know of the police stopping MH and getting unpaid fines there and then, we met one very unhappy man !!!
But these toll booths are not on every entrance to Portugal, nor are there any clues or information to the fact that automatic tolls existNot sure what you mean by sneaky toll system.
When I entered Portugal last year, there was a toll booth immediately you entered the country, where you logged your bank card. This was then debited every time you USED a toll road. I was charged nowt. Stayed off toll roads
Or in any European country, expiry of insurance is pretty unforgivablei had an instant roadside fine in Portugal ,of 600 euros , my cover note had expired by a day. i argued it down to 30 . never get away with that in Spain !
in Portugal , they send a cover note , then take ages to send the policy . this was my second cover note ,legally i was insured ,but as the note had run out the previous day , the cops were trying to make a buck on a technicality. i wasn't being fined for not having insurance ,but for having incorrect paperwork . manana still found in placesOr in any European country, expiry of insurance is pretty unforgivable
