Portugal toll fines

I notice the tag reader in France is different to the tag reader in Spain. And fair to assume the may differ? I can’t see why this can’t be done though, especially with only one currency involved, the €.

One for Brussels to sort out.
Fulli tag does France, Spain, Portugal and Italy ...........

We’ve not been to Portugal yet, hopefully next year. Sounds like a scam, as you already had a tag setup in place, just ignore, and don’t let these scammers put you off returning to Portugal.
I'm every year in P with A license plate. i pay the toll when there is a toll box for tickets like in the rest of Europe. It is not possible or very complicated to pay the elektronic video toll for an non P driver .
So I don't care about this toll anymore. I just drive on, last time in November the motorway to Porto or the Algarve motorway. Never got any letters from Portugal. By the way we will be in GB (Wales) in about one week. Greetings from Lascaux.

Have been trying to sort out a tolltag for Scandinavian, what a faf, apparently postie is delivering it tomorrow, but we've not paid the postage or set up charge yet, so who knows what will happen. IIRC Simon is in Norway right now, and after last years fiasco decided just to wing it.

Colin I seem to remember that if you don't have a tag they'll bill your home address for payment Not as a penalty

All the advice, and Norwegian website, seem to say register with a billing company, and these seem to have changed, so BroBiz (or whatever it's called) which was a favourite no longer do private vehicles. I'll find out soon, will either get a reasonable bill, or a whole load of fines 🙄 The company we've gone with are offering 20% discount on certain tolls and ferries.

Polarsteps, I wish I’d known about this before we headed out to EU land. Return leg will be a good practice run 👍
Please let us know your site address I look forward to your pic's on here. With the talk of toll tags on here I just checked the date on my ATMB tag an it was 8 yrs old when last used on Oct 23 so just marked it faulty on their site and new one on its way no charge

I have absolutely no clue what you are referring to?

I'm heading that way next week. I've registered with Epass24, which uses APNR, I didn't have time to order a Tag. So I'll see how it goes.

Ah I see, the gent was referring to what is basically a prepaid toll payment system. 👍

There where several options, I did consider Epass24 registration, but decided on a tolltag due to the length of time and millage we intend covering, I know Simon had problems with Flyt last year, so went with Tolltickets as there website seemed easiest to understand.
Maybe in the Autumn we need a thread on experiences of the different systems.

Yes entering in the South you can register your vehicle reg number against your credit card at the main entry road into Portugal all signed pull into a separate bay, We missed that so bought a card in one of the service stations registered that on line an get a text when it needs topping up.
The main toll's N to S have booths to pay at like most toll rds but has drive thru lane for their registered vehicles

Depends where you are on the north south tolls I think ?
We were expecting booths a few years ago but found none so hence need to get campsite manager to get the laptop out . I think at the start you are ok but maybe not so straight forward in the middle sections.
Agree entering from Spain in South is easy for East West route if you pull in an register where signed.

There's a political problem in Portugal at the moment, with the minority government being outgunned by the combined opposition who are trying to remove tolls from the motorways built with EU money, like the A22 in the Algarve. The government can't afford it . . .
Rishi's not the only one with problems!

Interesting , in Spain there has been talk of bringing them back ,just a short while after they were removed and the stations demolished.

We love Portugal and drive around lots. Never use toll roads as we are never in a hurry. The toll roads are on the whole pretty empty so I don’t know how they cover the cost of running them. From what we’ve heard even the Portuguese find the electronic toll road payment system difficult.

Those non-toll roads were fun, but the rattling teeth may need attention after all those cobbles, or fractured tarmac with cobbles grinning through!
