Portugal 4 weeks of rain?

We were going to Portugal however in the days before we ferried Portugal looked very wet and even now continues to look wet.

So on arrival in Santander we decided on Valencia and eastern Spain which looked dry, warm and after 9 days continues to be dry although a bit grey at times with one overnight shower.

Just curious really but for those wildcampers in Portugal was it/is it really as damp and wet as the weather forecasts are suggesting?

Even Seville seems to have had a bit of a soaking in the last 4 weeks.

Would like to know if forecasts can be relied on to be honest for future reference.

I follow the bloggers Kiwis Fly the Coop, who tour in their van - they are in Portugal right now and yes, it looks miserable.

We live here.
Up in the hills, the forecasts are unreliable, because the winds are liable to change.

At present the places near airports are more reliable.

The general picture is to avoid all the coastline from Portugal via Southern Spain, North Morocco and through to Gibraltar.

Gibraltar and surrounding southern Spain is horrendous now.
East side of San Rouque is blocked by fallen trees .himena del a frontera is cut off due to flooding. (45 mins north of Gib)
Family say the rain is relentless.

We are 'holed up' in Moncofa, having abandoned the envisaged touring because of the awful weather. The daily Spanish forecast is accurate, except that the rain symbol might mean a shower or a deluge of varying duration. Moncofa has been dry most of the time we've been here, albeit quite blustery, but the wind is blowing the rainy stuff through to other places, and we are still able to wander along the promenade and into town as the mood takes. And the evening temperature of around 13 degrees is ok to wander along the illuminated promenade in. 16-20 degrees would have been better, but 13 and dry, with decent solar yield will do us as a consolation prize

Because of personal reasons I’ve had to delay my Iberean trip a month. Sometimes things work out for the best. Leaving UK early March. Hopefully the weather will have improved by then
Finding things to do is taking me all day, every day. When bed time comes around, I’m worn out and more than ready for it. Looking forward to another exciting day of finding things to do.
Could be why I’m spending so much time on here and our sister site.

Wet weather is correct. In addition to the Kristin storm damage across the central regions , now due Leonardo, less windy ( only gusts up to 100m/hr rather than 200!) but already damaged areas further at risk. Look at IPMA.pt for reasonable forecasts, but not always accurate. Can't believe how little thee has been on UK news about the storms ...state of emergency until 8th Feb.

A similar situation for us at Farnals. This morning I was surprised that the wind had completely dropped, but then the 50mph gusts suddenly started! Apart from that it is dry and bright, 21c tomorrow.

In central Portugal it has been un believably bad torrential rain many many houses with damage to roofs building etc ,trees power lines down, many people still without electric water etc. Please stay away until things improve as many roads are still impassable.We were lucky as only had small amount of damage to our house but over seventeen very big trees down in garden .It will be several weeks before normally returns.

Portugal really was as bad as it can get. We were in a camp site at Pedrogao on the night of storm kristin, and it was totally destroyed. Our Heki roof blew off, and it took me two days to find the dome, which fortunately we were able to attach with screws and foil tape. Damage to the side of the van from a cabin that totally disintegrated next to us. No power, phones or internet when we left, and complete devastation more than 50 miles inland. We have now run away back to France!

Hi.
We left for Portugal/Spain on 29/12/2025 and the weather this year has been awful.
We have a weather app called Weather Pro which we find excellent and we follow religiously. We opt for the 99p per month subscription which gives us 14days weather.
We have managed to keep ahead of the weather using this app and are now in Alicante.
Other friends have been soaked for weeks sticking to their plans.

we came over less than a week ago with the intention of going slowly down to pomarao , forecasts influenced our decision to head for spain reached valencia yesterday apart from rain en route had not seen bad weather , coming down the motorway to Alicante we were buffeted about then ended up at Elche reservoir a lovely sheltered spot room for 60 but only about a dozen vans here good for couple of days except madam not happy only one bar 5g signal , 3rd world disaster lol

Our place (Serta area) still has no electric, phone or internet signal! Stay put ...we are thinking of heading Alicante way for a while, rather than back to our barn....took refuge in the Algarve since Saturday last. And the weather is horrible here but nothing in comparison to storm Kristen. But road & bridge floods could be an issue. Take care.

We were feeling just a bit relieved that our ferry isn’t until 10th March, the way things are going now I’m not so sure.
