Looking to get one. Thinking of the Weber 'go anywhere'. Bit pricey for what it is, on the other hand I've got a Weber BBQ in the garden and it's a fantastic bit of kit.

Anyone got one or something similar? Any suggestions welcomed.

Ooh, just tried barbecued bananas the other day, lurvely!!! Particularly with ice cream (or a smashed up choc-ice in this case).

NB: the choc ice wasn't barbecued.

Petromax Atago

I'm new to this web site so apologies if I mess this post up.
Try a Petromax Atago.
It is an all stainless steel bbq that collapses down for storage and can be used as a small fire pit too. Very good German quality but not cheap.
I've Had it one season and being all stainless it still looks good. In fact it will last for years I would say making it good value for money.

I was looking at the Weber go anywhere today in Go Outdoors, look good but a bit pricey.
We have one very similar to this
Sunncamp Deluxe Square BBQ
It came from Sainsburys many, many years ago and is looking a bit worse for wear but still serves its purpose and doubles as a great little firepit.

Last Thursday at Aldi.

Folding BBQ with Storage Bag - ALDI UK

We do bananas by cutting lengthwise through the top skin and the flesh (leaving the skin underneath intact) and stuffing with a few squares of chocolate. Stick on barbie until chocolate is melted. A taste sensation.

Webber barbies are good quality kit with warranty and spares available it's worth that wee bit extra on purchase.

I was lucky to be given a Weber Go Anywhere model years ago,yes they are pricey, but spares are always available. We've cooked many things on it including a butterfly leg of lamb. I 'devised' a chimney starter using a catering tin of Nescafe, can't do it now as the tins are made of cardboard,I did this long before the starters appeared and wish I had patented it!
After the barby the remaining glowing coals cab toast marshmallows, especially if you remove it with 2 chocolate digestives as 'pincers' the heat from the mallow melts the choccy and you have the perfect s'more.

I think the shape of the 'go anywhere' is one of the selling points for me as, with a mwb van, space is a consideration. So it should fit fairly snug under the seat.

Yeah those chimney starters are fab.

Trying to figure if the mini starter will fit in the BBQ for storage, suspect the grill will get in the way.

How tall is the thing when packed? I've read several different dimensions for packed/unpacked height.

Sold on Smokey Joe

Over the years we've bought cheap portable bbqs and they've never lasted much more than a season.

Our current one is a Smokey Joe which we've had now for several years and expect to last a lot longer - they come with a 10 year warranty.

This is the one we have

Weber Smokey Joe Original Black (1111004) - BBQ World

Agree, we are on our second in only 15 years and it sees a LOT of use all year round. We also burn wood and those chemical impregnated logs in it - it acts like a mini fire pit. Make sure you get one with the handle that snaps the lid shut as it keeps it contained for travelling. They are the best for cooking too, lovely even cook with the lid on. Would not consider anything else.
