I’ve not done the Poole to Cherbourg crossing before, does anyone know an overnight stop near the ferry port please?

I have spent the night and day here in Panorama Road waiting for the Brownsea Island foot ferry.

You can overnight in the vehicle check-in lanes. Occasionally, access is blocked off until early evening if there have been reports to suggest that there are "travellers" in the area who might wish to set up camp there.
Expect check-in to commence at 0630.

Seem to have been a lot of double yellow lines in Panorama Road, plus a bit of pay-and-display (can't read times of operation).

Thanks for info, I’ll try the ferry port first, I think we sail at 08.30

That's certainly the normal schedule. There is a sign at the entrance telling you which lanes for BF to Cherbourg. There is also a sign giving a number to call if the entrance has been blocked off but don't expect them to come to open immediately, they usually just say at what time they will do so.

We did the crossing early April. Got to the port the evening before crossing. They are set up there to stay over night. Toilets etc (open all night) and a cafe in the morning if you fancy a bacon sarnie. A note is placed on your windscreen some time in the night asking you to pay the overnight fee (£15 if I remember) at the cafe. Recommend it. (y) Take note, vehicles we saw in the morning that where parked in the lanes did not have the note on the windows so prob did not have to pay. We wanted peace of mind so not concerned. Will do it again.

It is a bit steep. Started off at a fiver back in 2016. It does have all the facilities though except hookup. Adjacent to the loading lanes over to the far right of the lanes past the Condor booths. Parked alongside high building.
Showers, Loos, waste water dump and fresh water refill. Cafe opens 0600.

We stayed overnight last week and when I went to the cafe to pay £15 they said there was nothing to pay as there was a dispute over collecting the money.
They have good facilities there including black water dumping point.

I always stop over at the ferry port. Never been on our own as other campers and caravans do the same.

15 minute walk to Poole Quay, a Spoons and a Tesco express.

I used Turlin Moor Recreation Ground (in the Wild Camping POI's) - a quiet car park for a sports ground but on the edge of woodland.
