Pet Passport

Having recently returned after two months wintering in southern Spain/Portugal we were panicking slightly about finding a vet to do the necessary pet passport things for our two dogs. We knew that the closer you get to Calais the more expensive it can get, and on booking the return journey for the channel tunnel I hadn't taken into account the strict 5 days for sorting the dogs. So we lost the Sunday and our booking was very early on Thurs, we had to find a vet quickly on the Monday if we could. We did in fact find a vet Clinique Veterinaire du Vivier at Lamotte-Beuvron which also has a very nice Aire just 1.5km away at the other end of the village. It cost us 44 euro for the two dogs 30 of which was the consultation and similar to the price we pay here, which was good I thought considering we had a quote in Montreuil about 80km from Calais of 78 euro. So if anyone would like to use them their tel no is 02.54.88.01.64 and appointments can be booked by email on clinvet.vivier41@wanadoo.fr. They are approximately 400-500km from Calais so having got the dogs done by noon on Monday we had a good 2.5 days to get to Calais which was ample time we found. I have the full address if anyone wants it.
Has anyone found another vet at a good price?
 
Collating vets

Someone on here was kindly collating vets and placing them on Google Maps. Just need to find the thread ... to book Oscar in for our crossing on 11.04. It will be the first time we've done it.
 
I have had to do this several times.

Even the smallest French towns seem to have a vet. Google is a reliable way to locate the practices.

In my limited experience French vets speak English and are well versed in dealing with Pet Passports. There is one oft repeated bit of advice. Check and check again that the date and time of the worm treatment is completed correctly!

"KeithChesterfield" has been updating this for some time. He also has some very useful videos on his YouTube channel of travels regarding Aires, getting onto Ferries, Eurotunnel etc.

European Vets Recommended for Pet Passport

Good advice,and that the pet passport is signed,dated and stamped by the european vet after the treatment,also make sure there are no mistakes or alterations in the pet passport.Because of an unsigned alteration by our UK vet it nearly resulted in us not being allowed on the ferry.
 
The last vet i used in France also spoke perfect English,but for some reason used French to yell at the dog when he wouldn't sit still for the exam.:dog:

Worth re iterating is that !!!

My dog has a French pet passport and I had to watch the vets like a hawk. Whilst the vets are incredibly talented and bright people academically very few realise that the British authorities take the passport being completed correctly very seriously.

Check and double check
