I would guess even less likely to get a ticket .And we're only discussing overhanging another bay. Different rules apply if you are at the end of the bays and overhang say a double yellow.
Got it, page 42, one full wheel outside bay is a contravention code 24 in NI, this does not mean the same rule applies in england/wales/scotland.
The problem then is knowing what the local regulations are, it's very rare(if ever?) that signage will stipulate if keeping vehicle within bay refers to wheels or bodywork. As above, if there's a traffic warden about then you can ask, after all they are the ones who will give you a ticket, otherwise you either have to check with each council, or abandon parking. It would be very helpful if every council followed the same guidelines.
Anyway back to OP, I find with most parking bays the wheels on our 6.36m XLWB van just fit in the bay, and the LWB 6m vans have the exact same distance between wheels, so the only differance is the amount of overhang.
That is one interpretation, but more than one car park warden and traffic warden has told me the opposite. It's a general misconception that only the wheels need to be within the marked bay.
In general the entire vehicle needs to be within the marked bay, that's the rules.
And the contravention.
24 – Your vehicle wasn’t parked correctly within the bay markings.
Like op I have been advised by traffic warden in London that as long as the wheels are in the box it's fine. As the bays were shorter than my van I also asked if perhaps I should park over 2 bays and pay for both and was told that was illegal and would be ticketed. It's a general misconception that only the wheels need to be within the marked bay.

Crazy! Parking and fines get worse.I also asked if perhaps I should park over 2 bays and pay for both and was told that was illegal and would be ticketed.
Did you pay ?Crazy! Parking and fines get worse.
We stopped in Morrison's car park Norwich and had a bite to eat while we were there. Loads of room and we parked well away from anyone else. Made 2 purchases in the shop for £40 and filled up with fuel too at £80. 3 weeks later got a £60 fine for overstaying by 20 mins.
Yes Allan I did. It's enforced by a private company not Morrisons. I've ignored private charges in the past but apparently they are getting much smarter at chasing up non payers and didn't fancy the hassle and the risk of a higher penalty IF ignoring it didn't work.Did you pay ?

It all comes out of the kids and grandkids inheritance so it's not my money anyway![]()
If we lived close to the actual store Id probably have asked the manager to intervene but we're miles away. I was talking to someone who had a similar situation with Halfords, she got a ticket for staying too long on their car park while she was having one of their batteries fitted!! She spent hours of her time trying to appeal to common sense but Halfords just deflected responsibility onto an the private parking company (that they employ) and of course the parking company just claim they are doing their job on behalf of an the shop.Understood .
I did , in the past , go to the actual company which owned a motorway service station not the parking company ,
Got ticket cancelled . Bit of a palaver I must admit .
But , as you say , you are stealing from your grandkids so it doesn't really matter![]()
