The only carpark that allows motorhomes seems to be the Castle carpark, which opens at 06:30am, the trouble is, I want to get a bus that leaves the bus station at 06:35am. Apart from a pair of roller skates, have any locals any suggestions, the bus in question is the 93A.

Bitts Park maybe?

Cheers

If you go on Carlisle council website you get this, for every carpark apart from the Castle carpark.

Bitts Park Car Park

Parking Spaces

  • General Use: 53
  • Disabled Spaces: 3
  • Motorcycle Spaces: 3
  • Parent & Child Priority: 3
The following vehicles are not permitted to use this car park:
  • Heavy / Light Commercial Vehicles
  • Coaches, Caravans, Motorhomes and Campers - Parking is available in Castle Car Park CA3 8UL.
  • Minibuses - Parking is available in Castle Car Park CA3 8UL and The Sands Car Park CA1 1JE.

We parked our camper, doblo xl for a few hours last year at Bitts park there didn't seem to be any no overnight signs. We ended up parking on street parking windscreen way in Southern Carlisle for 2 nights while we ran the Cumbria way.

We tried to stop for lunch and shopping in Carlisle a couple of weeks ago, only to find what you have reported — that motorhomes and caravans are not welcome, even during the day, in any council car park in Carlisle, apart from the Castle car park. To make it worse, you have to use one of the 16 dedicated spaces in the Castle car park, which are shared with coaches and minibuses. Not much of a welcome. We moved on elsewhere!

Another idea would be to park out at Moorhouse which is on that bus route. Maybe ring the Royal Oak and book a meal for the evening and ask to leave the van for the day.

We're thinking of doing the hadrians wall path, so we need somewhere to park near a bus stop near the end of the section. As there doesn't seem to be any other options, we'll probably risk the castle car park (others have stayed there).

Try this location: 54.900838, -2.944928. It's at the end of Mayor's Drive. We've overnighted there several times. Surrounded by trees so no satellite reception patchy. No "no overnight" signs but its not an official car park - used by dog walkers. Never had any problems there. No barriers. Keep it quiet from the council in case they decide to erect barriers.

Late last year I overnighted in Rickerby Park..........no problem..........has a through road...........quiet !.....would be a long walk.

If you are early in the day park at the back of dfds/ wickes in newark terrace there is quite often a number of mh that park there overnight without any problems bit of a hike to the railway station but not impossible free parking and no time restrictions often park the car there when I'm in town look on Google maps

Sorry you said bus station well that is only a 10 minute walk fron newark terrace
