Parking charge

Been through this and Trevs right, just ignore them. They’ll pester you for a bit the you may get a letter from someone claiming to be an inforcement agent. Just ignore and then after a while you’ll hear no more.

But try not to bloke 4 spaces as it gives us all bad press, try to stick to two spaces.
That's not great advice by all accounts ...

It used to be the way to deal with them ....

These days not so ....

I got a so called fine last year after meet Campervanannie in a service area (behave you lot) it came in the post and I challenged it as £100 for being 1 minute over the allotted time was excessive.

I asked my solicitor (over a pint) and he simply said “let them try, but they won’t, you’ll get a treat or two and then they’ll bugger off” exactly what happened.

Also https://moneynerd.co.uk/private-car...wever%2C%20this%20isn’t%20the%20whole%20story.

Now don’t think this is me saying, park where you want and stay as long as you want, you shouldn’t do so.

But also don’t think these private companies can issue a fine, they can’t, and the collection agency’s know that fully well.

If they pursue you via the courts it will be a hard case for them and they’ll only do so if you took 4 spaces and stayed 2 days (as an example)

Also if you plead no money the judge will let you pay weekly, and thats what folk do, they pay one instalment and stop, then the parking co have to take you back to court, they know this and thats why if you dont reply they give up.

I've appealed against it and asked to be notified by email as we're currently in Europe for 3 months, heard nothing and worried when I return there will be a balif outside the front door, tried contacting them by phone UKPC but it's impossible, have sent an email through a complaint address that is given informing them I requested notification by email, so I have proof that I am not ignoring things, I parked over 4 bays length ways as that was all what was available.

UKPC Exactly the same people, they wont answer the phone, they won't reply to emails and Ballifs (enforcement officer) will not be coming they only enforce criminal fine or taxes owed to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) or To take goods if there was a controlled goods agreement in place, but you did not pay what you agreed to pay. Any debt collection agency know they need a judgement before they can knock your door and that aint about to happen.

Relax and enjoy your trip.

I’ve had dealings with UKPC a couple of years ago. Very similar situation, parked over four spaces.
The letters will get more threatening, but will stop after twelve months. They give you the opportunity to appeal, but only use the information to get your name and address, they always refuse your appeal and start sending a series of letters, which get progressively more threatening, but if you read the small print at the bottom it says we MAY refer you to our legal dept/bailiffs/debt collectors, but it’s all cleverly worded to scare you. Their operation is all about collecting easy money and will give up after a year.

I've know a few carparks where our PVC can only just fit widthwise, and even then would struggle to open cab doors if between cars, I can imagine that a wider coachbuilt parked in centre of bay could effectively block 6 bays if the bays are narrow, so parking in 4 bays would be the less worst option.
As I've posted before, the carpark serving our local Halfords (and couple of other shops) has a large sign at entrance stating something like "Any vehicle which cannot fit in one parking bay will receive £70 fine".
I'd be surprised if 6 bays were required; however, for a LWB motorhome four bays are often required due to the limited width of the alleys between sets of parking spaces; if taking up only two bays, you need to be able to pull right out of the bays before beginning to turn and the alleys just aren't wide enough to enable this.

Got the below reply today after I appealed, there knocking the charge down to £ 30 if I pay within 14 days, I know I should fight on but I just can't be bothered for 30 quid. Thanks for all your input guys.

you wish to appeal to POPLA, you will lose the right to pay the discounted rate of £30.00, and should POPLA reject your appeal you will be required to pay
the full amount of £100.00. If you opt to pay the parking charge you will be unable to appeal with POPLA. Appeals to POPLA must be made within
twenty-eight days from the date of this letter. To appeal with POPLA, please visit http://www.popla.co.uk. If you are unable to access the internet, you

service that would be competent to deal with your appeal. However, we have not chosen to participate in their alternative dispute resolution service. As
such should you wish to appeal then you must do so to POPLA, as explained above.
If you choose to do nothing the parking charge will automatically increase after thirty-five days from the date of this letter to £100.00 and the matter will
be passed to our debt recovery agent, at which point you will be liable to pay an additional charge of £70, in accordance with the terms and conditions of
parking, and further charges will be claimed if court action is taken against you. Any unpaid court judgement may adversely affect your credit rating."

Fair enough . I do understand your reasoning.
I would give them fekkbuggerall

I concur with everyone else.

It’s a money making scam, imo.

I’d be loathe to surrender to these bullies and thieves, but understand why you just want to pay the bill and move on, especially if you’re a normal, decent-minded person. 🤷‍♀️

You do have to have thick skin and a certain level of bloody-mindedness not to give in to such blatant bullying and scamming. Most people do pay up, that’s why this parking company - and many other similar suspect “operators” - get away with their scams and why it’s such a lucrative business for them.

It’s basically modern day highway robbery operating under a cloak of so-called normality. Plenty others at it too … 🤷‍♀️😠

Fully concur Marie. Like any other scam if they score one in 20 attempts (or even one in a hundred who knows?) they have made a killing. :(

We go the said retail park regular and i have to say the standard of parking is truly atrocious.

Security / parking attendants are there all the time and regularly check because of the attitude / behaviour of the shoppers.

The car park capacity is 1483 and whilst the spaces nearest the stores are very often full the extremities are normally very quiet so with a little bit of effort space will be found but it will result in a longer walk back to your chosen store.

Even when I was walking on crutches, we would always park far from doors, the desperation of some people to save a couple of steps is quite astounding, I realise some have good reason.
