Hi guys anybody had this before, had motorhome for 10 years always parked over bays in car parks as van won't fit a normal bay, I realise if it's a pay car park you pay for two bays etc, popped into Capitol retail park Preston which is a free car park, van won't fit into any space no oversize vehicle provision available, so parked over the only option which was over 4 spaces , popped into shop for 10 minutes then left, a week later £100 fine ( £60 if paid 14 days )
To say I'm annoyed is understatement.

I had a parking ticket in Preston as ticket on dash had turned upside down. Only live a few miles outside city but have never been into for 6 years now just shop elsewhere.

I read that any council c parks by law must provide one space for a rigid truck and one for articulated, but you have no chance fighting this if you parked over a few bays, pay up and move on.

Had a look on google maps, the carpark has more notices than any other I've seen, can't quite read them on street view, but I guess it's in t&c's.

A guy in Birmingham used to pay for two bays to park his Ferrari due to width. Got done for not parking according to the T+C's ie within the lines of the parking bay!

I would have faught that in a court, maybe just lose change to him.

I have had 2 in the last few years, one street which i fought and won and another in a private park which i just did not respont to.
In N Ireland it is not the keeper who pays but the driver at the time and you dont have to say who it was, they also must have a clear picture of driver and not just the reg plate.

Unless I can see lots of other M/Homes parked beyond the designated bays [for cars], I always find the Security Guard or the person collecting the trolleys and check whether it is OK to occupy 2 bays. It isn't the cost, it's the thought of being fined for trying to provide custom to the supermarket, and it would wind me up for days afterwards

And that is how it should be throughout the UK.

So a free car park and you got fined ?
Not a lawyer but , legally , that sounds all wrong .
Have you appealed ?

What exactly did the T&Cs signage say? Do you have to park entirely within marked bays or within a marked bay? There is a difference! If the wording is the former, the parking enforcement organisation does not have a leg to stand on. If the latter, you probably have little recourse.

Out of interest how wide is your van, I've often had to park over 2 bays due to length but not 4 .

Been through this and Trevs right, just ignore them. They’ll pester you for a bit the you may get a letter from someone claiming to be an inforcement agent. Just ignore and then after a while you’ll hear no more.

But try not to bloke 4 spaces as it gives us all bad press, try to stick to two spaces.

I've know a few carparks where our PVC can only just fit widthwise, and even then would struggle to open cab doors if between cars, I can imagine that a wider coachbuilt parked in centre of bay could effectively block 6 bays if the bays are narrow, so parking in 4 bays would be the less worst option.
As I've posted before, the carpark serving our local Halfords (and couple of other shops) has a large sign at entrance stating something like "Any vehicle which cannot fit in one parking bay will receive £70 fine".
