Overnight stay in Camper Van thwarted by police

Is it just me? The no staying away from home rule is still there so why would anyone be surprised by this. Where I live there have been a couple of camper vans staying overnight and the reaction from locals is very anti camper van now. Remember there are many tourist businesses such as hotels and guest houses still unable to operate and hurting badly. After local lobbying we managed to get recognised camper van overnight parking in the town, believe me the image presented by people openly flouting the rules does nothing for our cause.

There's about 50 caravans spread over Southsea Common today. I expect the police have been around and warned them that they mustn't stay overnight.

Hey there - I dont think that is on our WC map is it? Please do submit it :)

Cheers,
Melissa
I know the Creech Hill spot. From memory their are a stones or blocks at the entrance restricting the entrance width to about 2m. No good for coach builds. Must have been small vans parked up, maybe VW campers.

Look on the bright side, the Club sites open on the 4th July probably.
They don't in Wales. Mark Drakeford ,Wales First Minister (never heard of him? count yourself lucky) has just announced that self catering accommodation and static caravans can open from 13th July because they are self-contained. No mention of self-contained MHs or towed vans. I have the impression that he doesn't know they exist.
We live in Wales and love Wales but, come the 4th, we're already booked and off to England.

I'm not sure whether some realise we have "facilities" on board. It amazes me how many people look surprised when you tell them the thing has a crapper on board, but then it maybe the way I say it.

Looked like Merc' Sprinters, if I get a chance I'll pop up there.

The no staying away from home rule is only applicable if you have a home, we live in our van and so do many others, we all have to stop somewhere.

If it’s on top of a hill in a beauty spot area , volenti non fit injuria, I think the saying goes.
Asking for trouble.
I think if u are having to live in van common sense dictates , be discrete!!!!

MoHo parked up overnight at Clay Pigeon , Dorset, last night, OR, the occupants got up really early, drove there and shut all the blinds at 7am! I don't think so.

Maybe they were just driving home from a very long day out early in the morning, and stopped for safety reason, dangerous to drive whilst tired.

Had to go to Lytham St. Annes yesterday so we popped into the aire to have a look.

1 had definitely spent the night there given the fact that the cab windows were thick with condensation running down them.

There are signs up asking motorhomes not to overnight there but he clearly ignored it.

Whilst there i was talking to one of the RNLI guys who is also a motorhomer and had come to the station in it instead of his car to get the wheels / brakes moving.

He said plenty were arriving late and going early to avoid the Parking Attendants but they were on CCTV so we`ll see what happens.

What gives these nobheads the right to contravene the Covid-19 rules and possibly knacker it up for the rest of us who are playing by the rules ?

Even though it`s only 15 or so miles away we regularly go with the grandson as he loves Lytham St. Annes beach.

We go in the motorhome and try to get one the the allocated bays at the end by the Toby Carvery then we have somewhere comfortable to go back to.

With food and drink in the fridge, spare clothes for him to change into after coming back covered in sand and our own toilet it`s perfect.

It looks good on Google Maps and even if it has to be one of our RA points in [ ] its worth submitting - there's plenty of campervan users on here.
I'm a swine for submitting smaller car parks with small turning space - but I always say suitable for small vehicles only ! ;-)

Theres a guy that parks down the bottom of the parkland at the back of mine fro the past 2 or 3 weeks, he seems to moved it regularly at about 3 am then back the next night or so.
I asked him Wednesday why he seemed to move and I explained Im MH owner from up the hill, theres mine in my garden you can just see it blah blah ;)

He is full time and moves when he feels he needs through the night just so he can say he hasn't parked overnight, hes probably heading for 70 and says he is usually moving around with another van or 2 but they have both gravitated toward family for illness and lockdown issues.

I said but why, if they question you you have always only just arrived and were tired needed to sleep before driving on, so we have now a witness for him :)
my neighbours are a friendly bunch, and he is dong no one no harm down by the water

It's OK to sleep in your van if you are doing it for work. Might be worth asking the "bad guys" if that's what they are doing?
