Outsmart the thief trackers and alarms and insurance approval.

As ever it is down to money, if you can afford a £100k van then it warrants spending for decent cover.

I'm not in that price bracket, but if I was I'd be looking at this outfits equipment, I've seen it in action on YouTube and it's impressive.

That’s what I have

Maybe I should have said converters .
Fisherman buying a top of the range van which he has to modify (expensively) to make insurable?
The trouble is they would need to make the hab more secure and they can't doors are flimsy and the windows (cue Trev) are worse still, then they would need to probably go through some obscure ISO 9001 certification procedure, and that would make them even more overpriced.

They still supply vans with lead batteries as standard, and if you go for the lithium option you get ripped off. Clearly lithium has so many advantages for us it should be standard on all new vans by now.
I have two lithium batteries ready to be installed with Bluetooth and heaters.
So I will have two lead batteries for sale.
I hope the mains charger they fit has a lithium setting, if not then I will have to replace it.
Then we have no solar panels, it’s a no brainier for any Motorhome, yet most are supplied with no solar.
They run cabling for solar but don’t fit panels that are so cheap to buy now.
They also run tv coaxial cable with a tv socket, but no Aerial.
I am having a 5G router and antenna fitted, hardly anyone supplies this as standard.

All about cost, and anything extras would slow the production line down so they just don't cater for wild camping at all, there should be an end of line facility to add any extras, but maybe there just isn't enough call for it with the majority going onto site and getting EHU.

Not just cost, it’s so they can keep the weight down as well

Did a setup for a chap who was getting a brand new Hymer A Class about 18 months ago. Very extensive changes including changing batteries for Lithium, Inverter/Charger, Solar controller and 600W worth of panels on a 6M motorhome (that was a challenge :) ).

A clued-up Dealership and/or Manufacturer should be able to do this kind of stuff so it is sorted and ready at the point of delivery to the customer (and at a reasonable price as well, not the stupid markups you see for pretty basic changes).

I think this depends on the insurers.
I have dealt with direct line for over 30 years now, and have always found them to be fair. My neighbour left his keys in his car whilst paying for petrol. His car was stolen, and although they could have refused to pay they did, and fully. And his premiums were hardly affected the following year. They may not be the cheapest but therein lies the reason why they are one of the fairest. I don’t really believe in generalisations.
Sorry I forgot Direct Line, yes they are one of, if not the only decent insurance company, we had our home insurance (when we had a home) with them.

Regards,
Del

Previous van negotiated to have refillable gas and solar panel included .
Current van PVC came with solar , remis blinds , autogas tank and TV aerial
It was cheaper than similar vans so no brainer .
Still only had 70ah leisure battery!

I've always done the same with vehicle insurance. Never tick the boxes for extra security if there is any doubt. I don't have a £90k vehicle though so maybe you have to have it
They have no fitters in Scotland yet they claim to be nationwide. I was having to travel from Scotland to Keswick to meet an engineer to install their system. I was wondering what would have happened had I had a faulty system, would I have had to travel down south again. Also I much prefer the idea of using an App to text messages, which is surely behind the times.
I am not having a go at OSTT, far from it.
I owned a security company for 30 years, installing commercial and domestic installations. We had to register with the SSAIB and install appropriate equipment in order to comply with insurance standards. Without this we could not fit monitored systems with a police response. I don’t know why OSTT don’t do likewise. Surely they are capable of installing Thatcham systems.
I think they’re systems suit they’re monitoring set up, and I wonder if their monitoring set up complies with European standards. The system I have chosen is installed by Trackershop, but monitored by Phantoms European standard monitoring, something I think insurers would be looking for.
I know what insurers are like, but when running a security business it’s important to meet their requirements, regardless of what you think of them or their requirements. OSTT lost an installation for not doing so, and I won’t be alone.
What it boils down to is insurers don't trust us to be straight with them, and likewise we don't trust them.

Can't blame them for that, but they do rip us off.
I was with AXA when I had a break-in in my workshop.
Bunch of tools taken. My car was stolen and another car has its keys stolen (would have been stolen as well if it had any wheels on it!)

Axa paid out on the car theft within 2 weeks. They paid out over £1,000 to have the others cars security system and car keys all redone and recoded (It was a Subaru WRX, so an desirable target for theft).
They paid out on the tools claim just as fast and said that if I found other things had been stolen that I hadn't noticed initially, just let them know and they will pay out on those also.
So maybe different peoples experiences (or is it only perceptions if no claims made?) vary, but my own experience is my Insurer was 100% spot on and trustworthy, and clearly trusted their customer also.

Also ... The initial settlement figure they offered on the car was just about spot on as well and matched how much it would cost to buy an identical replacement from a Toyota Main Dealer. I did ask them to up anyway by just a couple of hundred pounds to meet a value the GAP insurer wanted and they did that within an hour of the request. All in all, a very good experience following a bad start to that day.
And also also ... Come the insurance renewal, my policy price reduced as somehow not only was my NCD not affected, I got an additional year! (I still don't really understand that and when I asked them if it was right (never assume with insurance!), they said it was not a mistake).
