I know about the C&CC and the CC and recently heard of the motorcaravaners club.
are any of you a member of any of these organisations. If so, why?
what are the differences?
what are the costs?
what are the benefits?

I have been following a discussion about the CC recently and they seem to be diametrically opposed to motorcampers. are the C&CC different?
what is the motorcaravaners [motorcampers] club like as they would seem the logical choice for us to be members of.

any info would be welcome as I know very little about them.
some seem to join for the discount travel but Norfolk line seem to be the one to use and beat any discount offered by the clubs. my insurance is cheaper than any offered even with their discount and I dont want to use the sites at their cheaper [?] rates of £5- £15 a night.

roi,I use the c&cc mainly because I use the local northumbrian coastal sites , the rates ( about £14 a night with hook up ) are cheaper than using the other coastal sites. I also use the Keswick site.I can say that I have found no attitude at all regarding motorhomes on c& cc sites and having just spent the week at Dunstan Hill nr Craster would say that there were more motorhomes than caravan tourers on that particular site.

When I,m away without the family I camp wild and have been doing for about 12 yrs now, its just that ,apart fron one night at Marazion I cannot get my wife to camp away from an official site.

The c & cc sites are always clean, well run and most importantly if you are on a site are quiet after 11 pm.

In relation to insurance I have found no benefit from C & CC and always search for my own.

thanks Steve,
i have heard that c&cc have a better attitude to vans than cc but this new one I heard about, the motorcamper club, anyone know anything about them?
as i do not use sites unless I absolutely have to and am completely self sufficient so I see no reason to spend approx £30 a year on membership then.
Unless any of you know some reason that will persuade me

I joined c&cc and have used their campsites twice. Have found them to be very helpful & professional - although I still prefer to camp 'wild' out of choice

Hi I was in the MCC a couple of years ago and didnt find them very friendly at all. I have used quite a few weekend rally sites with c&cc and have always been made welcome.

cas :D

is the mcc a section of one of the big ones or is it a seperate entity. I have only just heard about them.
If they are Motor camper club why should they be standoffish to another Motorcamper owner? you would think they would be doing all they could to attract members like us.
no one is actually giving me a reason to join any of them but are putting me off joining.

Hi Rio,

The MCC Motor Caravanners Club is a seperate entity as far as know there emblem is a snail on a blue background. I found most of the members were retired and and of a higher income bracket tham me (thats not hard), they seem to judge you on the age and value of yout van rather than you with the odd exception.

I'm in the C&CC and use there rally sites in summer 2 years ago I stayed at Cartmel Racecourse for 5.00 per nite at easter no facilities but still ok for easter in the lakes I thought.

Still hoping to see you at Gretna just got to get through the dreaded MOT think this will ber her last year :(

Cass :)

we will look forward to meeting you cas and thanks for the info.
I really think I will stay as I am then and not join any club. If they look down their nose at me I might just decide to alter the shape and as |I drive a 20 yr old ex ambi conversion they are likley to.
so folks It's Norfolk line for a ferry trip and NFU for insurance both cheaper than the discounts offered by cc and c&cc
Not a site user very often so not worried about those
and recovery by RAC which I pay full whack for so don't think they would benifit me at all.
The only thing would be the friendliness angle of meeting like minded people but that seems to be unlikely.

Hi again,

I drive a 22 year old yellow van what do you pay for the RAC I paid 91.00 last year and that included a tow home which I didnt think was bad due to her lengh, age and been a conversion ive also struggled with insurance because of her been a conversion.

Cas :)

Hi Cas,
I joined the M.C.C. for one year and went to one of their meets in the North East of Scotland. (this was about 8 years ago)

I have never seen so many vans so clean and in showroom condition
and so large. I wondered if they actually drove there or did they all live round the corner although they seemed friendly but I felt most uncomfortable. Considering that I'd driven about 150 miles and my van was pretty dirty, the next morning we snuck into a layby to wash our van with a basin and sponge.

No it certainly didn't do anything for us.

With friendly greetings,
Ian

I was on a site last weekend and were near a big 50K+ mh.
Saturday was lovely and we went down to the beach. He washed his MH and it was already cleaner than ours.
go on your hols to wash your van eh!
just had the rac renewal and i can't remember how much but do remember it was £84 last year. and My insurance is with the NFU. We are waiting for the renewal to come at the end of next month.
We had problems and the best my broker could come up with was Norwich Union.
they wanted a water system, wardrobe and bed installed before they would insure it.
they also wanted an engineers report of the mods.
and finally they would limit us to 4k miles a year. not what I wanted at all. especially with a cost of over £360
a friend suggested the NFU and I called them
cost £240, No engineers report no restrictions no problems. and also they were offering fully comp
I put my car with them too
It now costs me £320 a year for BOTH VEHICLES [because it is a mutual company] fully comp no mileage restrictions and no problems.
the only problem is they are very post code concious so if you are in an urban area forget it.
the only problem I have had with them is when I rang up to add the wife to be on the policy. no problem they said. but she's a learner. No problem they said. how much I said Nothing they said. B******* I said and put her on. Now i have to give her lessons.
and I got two lots of NO BONUS too in case I lose one. they do offer NCB protection and legal too

We have been members of caravan club and camping club for over 20 years now
Both organisations have plenty of Motorhome members. We have our own conversion and have never felt out of place.
We like the temporary sites that the camping club offer ,We get better ferry deals with the Caravan club. We used to have vehicle insurance with the Caravan club. Now we get a better deal with CIS.
Having said all that we still prefer to wild camp, but sometimes especially in winter we like to go to town sites such as Warwick,York or Southport and enjoy being able to park up for the weekend and not have to move.

at last, a positive reply for the clubs. thanks Jann.
but I can't see them beating the Norfolk line offer but that is at the moment. I suppose the time comes [possibly such as peak hols time when the ferry co's don't need to have offers and the clubs discount is a bonus. ]
I know they can't even come close to my insurance with the NFU. I have car and van, both fully comp for £27 a month, 2 lots of NCB and it has gone down the last 2 years and I know there is going to be a big drop this year
at least you feel them to be friendly to you which most haven't.
I like friendly. that is what it is about

Hi Rio,

Just tried NFU (Sheffield Branch) they wanted details of who originally convert van, ive no idea on that, a report on her because I didnt know and added 30% on because ive got a few points.

Didnt dare ask about car as well

Ive taken the week off at spring bank, just trying to get bf to pull his finger out and get my welding done for test, thats the only time I can get him in van.

Cas :D

I was insured through the Motorhome Ticket Club for several years including a 31ft Motorhome. Each year it went up. I had 2 claims in 1 year and they didn't exactly refuse to insure me, but said they didn't insure large motorhomes anymore. Went to NFU and my insurance was better and £100 cheaper. Each year the cost has dropped by 15% to 25%. Until this year and I changed my motorhome. Same size, same value. They say they now class it as a goods vehicle and have increased my premium by 25% and only allow me to drive the motorhome, no other vehicle. I will have to find somewhere else to insure now. :(

Hi all,
Over the years we had 2 self build and 2 recognised panel van conversions.

I notice no-one has mentioned Jardine-Faber, we were insured with them for a lot of years then after a long gap we recently went back to them, of course we liked them they have always specialised in motorhome insurance, but also do vintage vehicles as well.

Just a wee footnote, they are a bit old fashioned and prefer to speak to the individual on the phone then the rest is done by post.
They are most helpful.

If you try them, let me know how you get on with them?

With friendly greetings,
Ian

thanks for the info. by the sound of things if I change my van I would have trouble insuring with NFU. what happened to the old days when you just changed the details on the policy.
all you got to do now is post the phone number and address if you've got it.

sad day. I have had such a gret deal from NFU and have recommended them to anyone who asked for 5 years but I suppose I had better stop Now.
thanks for the info Ian. I have stored it away for future use. I know Blod wont last forever
I will post details of my renewal on this thread when it comes through about June. I am expecting a big drop after the report in the papers about the windfall for the NFU members.
