Hi my clever friends, we have a problem with our fridge, hope you can help. It runs well on gas and mains but not on 12v when travelling. I've tried with new relays but to no avail, any suggestions?

Is the relay working when you use the ignition on, simple test with a volt meter or a bulb and some wire.

mine didn't work well until I had batteries at full charge before travelling. This let all the power from the alternator go to fridge instead of trying to charge two batteries and power a fridge too.

I had the same problem Oppy, but I managed to fix it by replacing a fuse on the pcb housed within a cover box positioned behind the lower vent. From what I gathered this is the most likely cause, followed by a blown element.

Here’s my thread with lots of info, I hope this helps.

Good luck, Peter.
The way you're so loved on here someone will be round to fix it for you.
Just don't mention Glossop, when you give them directions.
😜

Thanks, I'll give it a try, the switch does not light up, so tomorrow with sleeves rolled up etc !!

You should see where the 12v element is plugged in on the pcb. I would unplug it and check it for continuity on your multi meter.
If you get an open reading then its your element, if you have a Thetford fridge they're about £30 on Ebay.
If the element is ok then look for a 20A vehicle type fuse on the PCB, thats what caused my problem.
I have shown the blown fuse on my thread, and also its position on the PCB.
Hope you get it sorted ok.

Because if stuff kicking in I've only just been able to get the cover off; So where do I look for the fuse?

Ta

Thanks for your advice, but sadly ours is a different setup to yours, ie a 1996 electronic one

That’s a shame oppy, compressor fridges are different. Hopefully someone else on here will be able to help you.
