Hi, going to coniston C&M Friday and looking to drive up late Thursday to avoid the Friday morning M6 traffic. Does anyone have any advice on a good place to stop.? Our Motorhome is 7.5 m.

Thanks

Yes on a campsite, it will be busy, book in advance !

There are a couple of lay-byes between Torver and the south end of Lake Coniston, also 'set backs' in the foresty bits. They'll all take a 7.5 metre van....I'm sure you'll be ok for 1 night.

There is a lay-by made up of a section of the old road just off the A591 at Staveley just before you get to Windermere, it is big enough to park a large motorhome and far enough away from the main road to get some rest.
If you take the A591 from the M6, there is a gyratory system at the end of the duel carriageway, take the second exit signposted Windermere A591 and follow this road for about a mile, the road becomes a duel carriageway for a short distance and you turn left immediately at the end of the duel carriageway, signposted C&CC Campsite. This is the old road / lay-by' It is very easy to overshoot, if you descend a hill with three lanes you have gone too far.

Good shout. It's called Ashes Lane and was one of our favourite brew spots when cabling up that way for BT.

Dont attempt Dubbs Reservoir POI, I decided not to as i respect my van too much . Very narrow, more like a footpath than a road.

Regards

This should be ok.

Just off the M6 at J36, head towards Skipton on A65 and take first left at the small roundabout just off the junction which os probably signposted Endmoor. Couple of hundred yards along the road and over the canal bridge, take immediate right and there is a dead end road which runs by the canal. In the lay by on the main road there will be a butty van from early on so don't go for that because it gets busy with trucks.

Also along the A590 near the Derby Arms at Witherslack on a section of the old road. Could get some noise from the A590 early on though.
