One for steam buffs.

I think I spotted channa somewhere in that second video :)

If there was monkey business to be had never far away .....the sheds in the background in the 2nd vid (Crimpsall works) ladies and gentleman is where the Mallard and Flying Scotsman were born !

Old Northern Bus station too at one point. Leyland tiger cubs and Daimler Atlanteans thanks for sharing.

As lads we never understood the engineering involved totally alien in our minds but it felt right Knew it was special but didnt know why .....A bit Billy Elliot moment

Werent we all lucky as kids ? bag of chips on the way home wi scraps spending your bus fare.

I had all of the A4 Pacifics in my little trainspotting book, all 24 of them.

And almost every A3 Pacific (like the Flying Scotsman). Living adjacent to the North East mainline and spending Saturdays on the platforms at Newcastle Station quickly filled my book (especially when we sneaked into the Gateshead Loco Sheds in the afternoon when nearly everyone had left work).

I have to stress that I was a child at the time and I do not possess an Anorak ... honest. :(

As an Apprentice Fitter with the NCB, I got the chance to work on the Steam Locos but they were just small Shunting engines.

I remember as a lad train spotting in Doncaster station 2 pence for a platform ticket and seeing the Deltics, and as lads blagging cab visits when they pulled in, The drivers were good with us.

The best bit was when one didn't stop and flew through the station on the centre rails, Like fire and brimstone the whole station shook exciting to our sensitive little tabs.

Who needed playstations h what memor x boxes ?

A bar six from the vending machines and a cup of Bovril on a cold day Put feathers on yer chest as my Dad used to say. If Julie Blackburn tagged along she wasn't impressed with that idea nor probably stood about drawing lines under an Ian Allen spotter book !:D

Oh, what memories that brings back.. At 11, my parents were not worried about me taking the train to Donny, Crewe, Sheffield, ( For that odd electric line to Manchester ) even Newcastle.. No worries about paedophiles we might meet in the sheds and works or in the cabs.
Then, at 13, after joining the Army Cadet Force, my interests turned towards Woodbines, girls and cans of Double Diamond.
Now, I'm only allowed to be interested in trains...Full circle?

Just to. Put the record straight:
The Flying Scotsman is pulling a special train from Kings Cross to York on October 13. They have permission to scatter Alan Pegler's ashes into the firebox during the run.

It seems that my chatty local informant was wrong about the USA departure in September.
He was, however, spot on about the breakfast cafe.

Just shows how easy it is to get fake news onto the internet... Even if you're off your face on dope and Newcastle Broon.. ( Him, not me, of course).
