A chatty local, possibly under the influence of a Jazz cheroot, tells me that The Flying Scotsman is going to The USA, permanently, before retiring to a museum, out there.. So if you want to see it, or ride behind it, from Shildon to York, it'll be gone by the end of August.
We're on the Shildon Railway Museum , overflow car park, after an interesting visit, The Scotsman was in steam and looking seductive.
Just across the road, he recommends The Whistle Stop Cafe, for it's Cardiac Arrest full English... £4.50. Inc defibrillation.
Got to be tested.
I'll report back... If I survive!

Dont know why were are sending our loco out there, start a petition keep the scotsman.

I for one be upset if she goes abroad permenantly ....as for Paul being a Yorkshireman so is she a Yorkshire lass ...made by the proud men in my town of Doncaster

A few weeks ago I passed through Doncaster on a train from Leeds some would suggest the town best seen from a train window. weird feeling ..I did look at the "plant " home of Flying Scotsman and the beautiful Mallard still to this day holds a world a speed record

No way will we let our daughter emigrate, too much love in the town not that the young uns get it .

Hopefully she aint going anywhere except our pleasant land hauling folk with big grins on their faces

I thought she was bought for the Nation, in 2004, to be housed in the National Railway Museum. I see she is being used up until the end of September on events, so if the rumour is correct we really are down to selling the last stick of furniture in the house.

The museum web site is giving event dates for the Scotsman until 1st October so something wrong with the information

Journey back in time...

For those idlers & retirees with too much time on their hands...

You wondering what to do to while away the time if the weather is a bit 'dreek' and you're digesting your big camper van fry up breakfast?

Well, grab a cuppa and spend some time with our very own Geordie fisherman on a train journey :)

I did say that my local informant seemed to be " under the influence "
We will continue with our investigation at the cafe that he recommended.
If there's not black pudding and 2 eggs on my plate, he's a liar.
He did offer us as much water as we want, if needed.
I think he just likes chatting to visitors .

You should show him how to drink without being under the interfluence, hic.

Might pop over to Shildon next week to have a look at the Scotsman.:)

The poncy Geordie actor (his own words) is too hysterical in his fishing programs for my liking, I prefer the Boro's Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse's new offering.

So far so good. We were frightened off by the full English. Settling for a breakfast 7 inch diameter Roll.. Filled with Bacon, mushroom, sausage BLACK PUDDING, beans and.... Fried onions.. Topped off with an egg . Brown sauce .
and black pepper as garnish.
The jury is out on The Flying Scotsman.

The mans a total knoob ( one "o" too many there) Ive met him, once is enough. He's a crap fisherman too:lol-053:

The story goes that,
The yanks thought they were buying Tower Bridge when in fact they
bought London Bridge, something entirely different. they didn't know
the difference (until it arrived) and no one was about to tell them.

Keep the Flying Scotsman and send them something ex Rosco,
or a rust bucket steamer from India tarted up with a couple of supaglued
brass nameplates. The yanks will never suspect, it'll probably end
up in Arizona anyway plonked on London Bridge, Disney style.

They can have the original.. It's doing nowt in Shildon.

I remember as a lad train spotting in Doncaster station 2 pence for a platform ticket and seeing the Deltics, and as lads blagging cab visits when they pulled in, The drivers were good with us.

The best bit was when one didn't stop and flew through the station on the centre rails, Like fire and brimstone the whole station shook exciting to our sensitive little tabs.

Who needed playstations and x boxes ?

A bar six from the vending machines and a cup of Bovril on a cold day Put feathers on yer chest as my Dad used to say. If Julie Blackburn tagged along she wasn't impressed with that idea nor probably stood about drawing lines under an Ian Allen spotter book !:D
