OBD2 Error Codes

Getting error code P0101 & P0111 on my 09 3 litre ducato. They seem to be something to do with a temperature sensor. Any info on where to try to locate the fault would be appreciated, from what I have read it could be a bad connection but I don't know where to start looking. Clearing the fault only lasts for a short time, haven't used the van much for a few months due to moving house.

Basically this P0101 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) means that there is a problem with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or circuit. The PCM detects that the actual MAF sensor frequency signal is not within a predetermined range of the calculated MAF value for more than 4.0 seconds. Other MAF sensor circuit DTC trouble codes are P0100, P0102, P0103, and P0104.

This DTC is a generic OBD-II powertrain code. It is considered generic because it applies to all makes and models of vehicles (1996-newer), although specific repair steps may vary depending on the model.

Symptoms

The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will illuminate. You will likely not notice any serious drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as rough running or stalling.

I am already a member of the Fiat forum & have also posted on there. At the NEC at the moment so limited what I can do. My van is an A class so there isn't very good access to the engine, had a quick look at the link but doesn't give me any indication where to look. Not sure if it related but the cruise control isn't working.

Hi ED
If you start looking at the air filter box on some models the MAS AIR FLOW METER (MAP METER ) is screwed directly air box , on some there is a large rubber hose connected to the air box follow the hose, there will be a large plastic unit with a wire connection to it this will be the P0101 CODE FAULT, if you carry on and follow the rubber pipe you should come to small unit pushed into to hose with a wire connection to it This is the INTAKE AIR TEMP SENSOR, p0111 fault code
I hope this helps a little .

I don't think it's a problem with the cruise control ,I think that shuts down for safety sake

In some cases the maf sensor can be cleaned with a good switch cleaner and airline

And on some (think it's either Volvo or BMW but might be JLR) if you use anything other than soapy water you completely trash it and have to buy a new one!

yes the codes are air mass sensor and air temperature sensor they will be located in the air filter ducting they might not be faulty
you could check the connections and wiring going to them.
also check for splits in the piping and blockages in the air filter.
as has been already said you could remove the air mass sensor it will be held in with a couple of screws they could be
tamper proof screws though. or remove the piping that holds the air mass sensor complete and clean the element
inside that measures the air flow with elecrical spray cleaner. it might just be the air temp sensor faulty whitch is a lot
cheaper than the air mass sensor. so i would change that first.

It is often said if for iat fault code to change the air filter first anyway
Also is the mil light illuminated does it stay on or is it not on and what affects are you having when driving
With these codes being present

Thanks for all the replies, i at least have a starting point. Although it was serviced in Aug. It hasn't had a lot of miles on it since then (about 1000) only had a couple of short trips. Hopefully now we have moved we should be able to get away.
Will have to wait until we get back home as I don't have many tools with us, had 2 days at the NEC show now heading to IKEA for some stuff for the house then home later today.
Driving doesn't seem to any different, when we filled up mpg was poor but this was before light came on also had lot of short trips.
I saw somewhere else about using brake & clutch cleaning fluid, is this not advisable? Is it better just soap & water as MF2000 suggested?

In some sircumstances some people usually unplug the maf to see if it drives better
Just to test it this way you can usually tell if the maf is at fault but also check the air filter to see if
It needs changing as some garages never bother to change them whilst servicing

The air filter was supposed to have been changed, I was charged for one. Have to wait until the weather gets a bit better before I can get around to looking at it, freezing cold here at the moment & it was snowing today.
