I do find it very odd that these people who talk about prisons and being herded on campsites seem to be quite happy to be on aires where there's three feet between each motorhome! Or in off-site camping spots that are much more crowded than most sites. Very strange?

Personally I find it better to be open-minded and to accept that some sites are superb, with lots of space and facilities, some aren't so good and some may be awful. Funnily enough exactly the same applies to aires and wild camping spots; some are idyllic, some are glorified car parks and some are in nice places, such as beaches, but can be more crowded than any site.

I like wild camping, when it's truly wild and where we can be on our own, or at least a decent distance from our nearest neighbour, but I'm not so narrow-minded, bigoted or tight (delete which doesn't apply to you) that I won't stay on a nice municipal or ACSI site if there is no decent wild camping opportunity. And personally, unlike many people, I'm not prepared to go without a shower for days on end!

Open your minds folks and stop treating those of us who are more flexible as some kind of sheep. If anything we're the more independent ones, as we're not conditioned to the view that only one kind of camping is acceptable. It's those like that who are the real sheep!

I'll do anything to help people and if I were in Spain I'd be happy to oblige. We'll be there for a month in January/February where, as usual we'll enjoy a mix of wild camping, occasional aires and some lovely half-empty sites, where we've loads of space and lovely hot showers a few yards away. The ideal holiday combination!

Sorry I can't help on this occasion, but I'm sure that your chum will have a great time whatever the site is like, as he'll be in the company of like-minded friends.

Nice hot shower? I do that everyday in my van when Wilding ,so I don't need campsites.Thankyou.

Does this statement apply to mobile phones too, sounds like double standards to me, think like me or you are wrong ??

I couldn't care less whether you have a mobile phone or not. I couldn't care less what kind of phone you have. I know what I like but I'm not going to try to influence you. I do know that a poster asked for advice on a particular mobile phone and I gave him advice because I own that phone. You of course just had to come along and tell us how you still manage with your ten year old mobile brick, and if anyone was trying to tell us that we are wrong in our choice of a modern smartphone, it was you! But it was all tongue in cheek of course! I still can't understand why you even had to make the post unless it was to try to influence us that we are wrong in wanting a modern smartphone when clever clogs like you can still manage with your old phones! So please, don't accuse me of double standards!

Your post was on a par with those who ask for advice on a sat-nav when there's always some smart-alec who'll come along and tell him that he's managed for years with a good map and why would anyone want one of these new-fangled devices.

BAAAAA BAAAAA, I think it was your reference to Sheep that did it, Sheep in Wolves clothing, albeit Bespoke LOL.

I have absolutely no idea what you're trying to say or why you're saying it. Like your contribution to the thread on the best smartphone I can see no relevance or worth in your posts. Tongue in cheek of course!

Why is it you love to stir things up in most of the things i have read on here, you must get a buzz out of it so please don,t start now.:idea-007:

Dear Northerner

Could it be that the preferences expressed by people on this forum have something to do with the fact that it says wildcamping.co.uk at the top of the page? Can't be sure - just a thought :rolleyes2:

Me stir thing sup? Let's start with the mobile phone post mentioned by vindiboy. Here's the thread http://www.wildcamping.co.uk/forums/general-chat/15747-sad-death-mobile-phone.html

Someone asked for advice on a phone that I happen to own. I gave the best advice I could. Vindiboy popped in and more or less insinuated that we're some kind of idiot for wanting a smartphone when his ten year old phone does everything he needs. The post was pointless, contributed nothing and if anything was intended to stir it was that.

In this post someone said this: "good morning ken. we dont like prison /campsites either .keep up the good work. you do have to remember some are institutionalized and cant help being trapped by the rest. regards to your family ."

Like many people I object to the kind of stirrer who can post crap like this and insult all of us who, as well as enjoying wild camping, are also happy to use sites occasionally. What right have you or anyone else to tell us that only your form of camping is right and that we are institutionalised and enjoy being trapped by the rest? But you raise no objection to that kind of comment. Why is that?

Finally, don't dictate to me what I can and can't post. I don't get any buzz out of posting on here. But I do reserve the right to challenge the kind of people who think that only their penny-pinching kind of motorhoming is the correct way and that those of us with more open minds are some kind of lesser species.

Dear Northerner

Further to my previous post, something else came to mind: do you like pies?

That's probably the most silly comment I've ever heard yet. Are you suggesting that this forum should only be for those who exclusively wild camp? If that is the case I shall tell the owner that I'm not renewing my subscription next year. If this forum banned people such as me who mix their camping between wilding, aires and sites it probably wouldn't exist as the number would be very small and the income greatly reduced.

One thing that I am learning is that some of the wild-camping zealots on this forum are very intolerant of others who don't follow their example. Phrases such as "we dont like prison /campsites either .keep up the good work.
you do have to remember some are institutionalized and cant help being trapped by the rest" accurately sum up their attitude to the rest of us and frankly, it's pretty disgraceful. Why can't you accept that, for whatever reason, we all have different needs and likes?

Oh - I must have got it wrong then. :lol-053:

No, you didn't ask me nicely. You were rude and domineering and tried to stop a perfectly reasonable debate by insulting me and telling me to stop posting, just because I'm posting views contrary to yours. If you support a point of view that's debate, but if it's something you disagree with, it's playing games. I'm not playing games, I'm trying to make perfectly valid points. But of course I'm rapidly learning that, for a small number of you, if I'm not a rabid wild camper who'll stop anywhere other than a site, I'm some kind of sub-human.
