Not sure what to do ...:(((

Do you mean after you have placed your bid ??? ....but I thought by ebay rules you had to pay for what you won on your bid ???? sorry Morgan I am really dim on ebay jargon it baffles me :lol-053:

I've bought and sold on ebay for years and it is a good site but you have to be careful as some people on here have said there's scams to look out for.
When I purchased mine it was'nt on auction. It just had a price.
I sent the seller an email asking some questions and more photos which he did.
I rang the seller and made an offer. We eventually agreed a price and I travelled 130 miles the following morning and was there at 9am. I checked everything on my list. especially the check to prove they owned the motorhome. I paid my money and drove it home. We never looked back.
If you can take someone with you who knows what to look for.

If you bid on one don't pay anything until you see it. The one you were looking at said he wanted a deposit within 48hours. Just go and see if the motorhome is all they say it is. If it's not you are entitled not to pay because you may have been misled. Some people go and see motorhomes before bidding if it's not to far. That's the best thing to do.
Dont rush, I looked and looked and thought I'd never get one.

Ahhhhhh I see.....now that makes sense ;)

Herbenny, I have lived full time in a van for four years....365 days a year....so I would like to think I have at least half an idea by now.
I have a coachbuilt, a ci which are budget in the grand scale but it has served me well.
Truth is I don't think manufacturers build for fulltiming so anything is ultimately a bit of a compromise.

If I could wave the magic wand, I would definitely go self build incorporate things that are important to me ....have you any idea how expensive, time consuming washing clothes is ?...as an example.
It is deffo not worth skintin the sen for owt fancy as it maybe.....always budget a few quid as treat money.
I have seen ex liibrary buses which I would kill for, what a canvas for your own thing ...flipside not the easiest of things to navigate...so there has to be a give.
I don't think there is the perfect van, the utopia if you like if you are buying coachbuilts.

Practical....merc sprinter..or for me an iveco 35/10, base vehicle...draw up a list of needs and desires and take it from there...has others have suggested if you build your own you know every nut and bolt.
I also think, that rain lashing on the roof of a self build, whilst tucked up with your cocoa....is a priceless moment to cherish....try booking that with great Western

Thanks Channa, great advice I cant imagine anything more satisfying as building your own little home on wheels. Your right I dont think there is the perfect van and I am finding I may have to comprimise on some things unless of course we went down the self build route..........I am amazed how much cheaper it could all be if we just put some thought and energy into it. I am looking all avenues at the moment and appreciate everyones advice its been so helpful........my only needs and wants is comfy bed :sleep-040:and a lovely shower........ ahhhhhhh Bliss !!!

It might be worth repeating an important consideration already mentioned by others. Habitation repair costs for a home build are much cheaper because you know where everything is, how it works & how to get at it. Also you are not limited to high replacement costs of fancy propietary parts such as you can only fit a Hymer branded tap or a Truma branded valve etc etc. With your own conversion you are free to pick & choose from ANY source, even domestic items at half the price and possibly double the quality.

Lovely shower, here is a good example ...the shower in my van is superb....hot to scould if you wish and lots of pressure to reach your bits bobs and bats...

But that long lingering shower, where you are relaxed and working your woes...all of a sudden ..kerputt..water has run out....that doesn't happen in a house..
Point is the long lingering shower is not an option unless you want to spend the following day looking to replenish
water...that isn't much fun.
Bigger tank on the motorhome then?......possibly but is a motorhome not a fire engine capacity is limited.
The point I am making is motorhomes are compromise so also be realistic in your expectations.
All part of the fun and dream, is working towards that as near to perfect van.
Anyway must dash the infinity pool is interfering with the Jacuzzis

:lol-053::lol-053: Ooooo you better get a move on :)...... No I just meant a shower full stop in fact running water of any kind will do. Our campervan didnt ever have running water and we had to have a cats lick in order to feel the slightest bit clean. I had to buy bottles of water and literally measure it out to make it last. So a shower of any sort would be a luxury even if I have to chase round the tiny cublicle to catch the drips :lol-053:

I too am looking for a new van at the moment and have been looking at the MH section in Caravanselecta. There are a lot of vans in my price range, but lots of them are ridiculously cheap e.g. 2008 MH for under £4000, these have got to be scams. I don't think these sites are policed at all so go carefully!

Thanks Robmac ....yeah some I have seen and I think Hmmmmm:confused: . Its the ebay thing I worry about as you just dont know who is genuine and who is not. I have seen lots of 'I am selling this for my friend' or the motorhome is not where it is advertised and I can meet you down shifty Lane :lol-053: I am not saying they are all scammers but I am too trusting and because I have to do the majority of the search as himbenny out the country as of today and I know I have to be careful.

Hope your search goes well:goodluck:

there's a lot of choice out there if you go the self build route.sprinter size good all rounders, need to be short to sleep across,5'8'' or less and you have to make and unmake the bed every day.luton vans give you a fixed bed over the cab, great ceiling height and loads of space for the same length, and straight walls make fitting out easy.library vans are great, usually come with leisure batts, central heating, hatches and windows etc.bigger of course and harder to park.don't really like double deckers, butsingles can be ok.coaches give a smooth ride but too much glass to get rid of.stay away from mini buses for a number of reasons, but ambulances can be good, often have a wider body.i've fitted out all of these types, never done a bendy bus,but for someone who is diy challenged library, luton or straight sided ambulance are easier 2009_0504vanjoel0043.JPGjeff 002.jpgmogs luton 002.jpgscania 021.jpglt35006.jpg

When I get more details on the van I will ask you if you dont mind. To be honest we have known that this guy was selling his van a couple of weeks ago but it never ever crossed my mind of a self build.

Stunning looking conversions there N Brown. Lovely looking work indeed.

yes very neat and tidy . vans to be proud of i should think.
you cant beat doing it yourself . you may have faults but at least you did it . better job next time .
if you use the right bits you can get great pleasure from doing it . sometimes strong is better than fancy.
the real question is do you know what you want or miss in past vans . build it for you.

I bought a car for my wife and my pick-up on e bay with no problems. Both around £2600. One was in Nottingham the other Manchester. We live near Dover, Kent ! You get a feel for the seller via contact through e bay and speaking to them on the telephone.

herbenny, I don't know what neck of the woods you are in but if you are looking at vans around my area (Staffordshire) and you want an extra pair of eyes to help you look, just let me know and I will come with you. I'm not up on the mechanical side but if himbenny is away and you want some help to press all the buttons and switches let me know?

Awww Lotty thats kind of you .......I am in Sussex but head up north quite regularly I have been on this ebay malarky all day I swear my eyes have gone square. Nearly bidded on something earlier and asked my son 'if I bid on something can I change my mind if I dont want it ?:lol-053:' he just shook his head in in complete shock at my stupidity and said noooooooooooooooo mum it doesnt work like that:scared: !!!!!

Think I need to learn some ebay etiquette :idea-007:

grab a beer and take a break, (but don't bid while under the influence :lol-053:):pc:

If you see something that takes your fancy on ebay, post it up on here before you bid and I'm sure the lovely folk on here will be able to give you their opinions and advise?
Also, if it's something you really want, go and see if before you bid if you can? Or see if someone on here in that area will go and check it out for you?

I hope you find your baby soon, :drive:
