North West Spain Reccomendations ?

Hi All,

I'm heading to North West Spain soon from Portugal to spend a few weeks before getting the ferry back to blighty and looking for some recommendations from people for places to visit.

I've spent the last few months beach hopping and am a bit beached out so would like to spend some time inland in some more green areas. I'm not a big city/town person so looking for recommendations for places more tucked away in nature.

I like to walk a lot (as does pooch) so places with great access to some nice walks would be ideal (cares gorge in picos de europa is the only place on my list so far).

I only wild camp so any advice about this as well in the region would be much appreciated.

Thanks !

Look at the Picas de Europa..
Google and our POIs will make it easy.
Watch out for the Buzzard Vultures at Spectacular Potes..

N.Spain, places.

We did the N. Coast, 2 months ago, agree with Pauljenny, Picos de Europe good, every town, even small has an Aire it seems. As an aiming point go to either; Cervera Dr Pisuerga, or Aguilar de Campo, take minor road to Escalade. Lots of lakes and views in region. Enjoy,

NW Spain

We came back from Portugal via NW Spain a couple of years ago, deliberately avoiding coasts and trying to going through or over all the Sierras and national parks.
Our route: Chantada (small Aire), A Fonsagrada (basic campsite), narrow mountain roads toPaereda de Vacares (basic campsite), more high mountain roads through terrific scenery to Sena de Luna(small site), mountain roads, high pass and tunnel surrounded by high mountain peaks, and rocky gorge via Hoces de Vegacervera and Bonar, then climb up to magnificent barrage in stunning mountain scenery, on up and up to a pass then over and up to Marana to stay a a great little Aire at an Albergo at 4100’. Down to Riano (POIs here) great views, on to Santa Marina de Valdeon... we stayed at Camp Cares but would better have stayed at Aire inPosada de Valdeon to visit the Cares Gorge...oooh! Not to be missed. We found the road down the gorge to be doable, main problem is parking, you need to go very early to get a space. From here we swung north of the Picos, but as others have said I’d definitely make a point of staying in Potes before leaving the Picos.
