North Berwick Law Ponies

Terrible parking by the V68 camper, taking up two bays, restricting the pavement, what sort of Scottish nitwit parks like that?;):sneaky:(y)

This is what happens when the swarms from the west head east to trash us, all that is missing from the scandalous parking infringement is, empty bottles of Buckfast strewn around the badly parked camper. I despair!!

How long ago was that? 1950's I am wondering?
such a shame these facilities were left to decline.
I don't know date of the colour image, here is a link with more detail and images from the 1920's

I reckon the introduction of the package holiday killed many of these outdoor pools.

David, did you know North Berwick had an outdoor pool adjacent to the harbour, Portobello also had same?

"Display teams from Portobello and Edinburgh would regularly attend the event. In the 1960s and early 70s the pool also hosted a very popular beauty contest “Miss Dunbar Bathing Suit competition”."

Still popular upto the 70's! As you say, the package holiday with cheap booze and guaranteed sun killed them off.
And another thing won't have helped, which I was thinking off this morning as I walked up "Station Road" in Duns with no 'station' in sight ... the wiping out of so many railway branch lines due to the insane Dr Beeching. Day trips out to places like that would have become very hard for many folk even as an option.

You make a good point David, re: railway branch lines being closed. I vividly remember the original Borders rail line when line came through Newtongrange, and so on to Edinburgh. And as you will be aware the line reopening September 2015, I took my students down the short walk from our campus to the Eskbank Station, where we got sight of our now deceased Queen opening Eskbank station. Then on she went to journey end at Tweedbank.

There has been discussions to expand this line further south, I wont hold my breath though!!
