I saw recently on YouTube someone using these gel pads to keep things from falling around whilst driving. They were really strong at keeping things in place and easily removable, leaving no marks

Does anyone know or have something similar ?

You should have nothing loose to fly around in the event of a crash, all should be in a safe closed and fastened shut place, you can buy anti slip mats for drawers to stop things moving within, many boat shops keep these, i may have some new ones here if you are stuck, think they are blue in colour.

As Trev said though nothing loose behind you, I am extra careful and if anything has to be loose I put it behind my wife's seat 😉

We were in a head on collision some years ago on the bridge at Coldstream (it is flat and straight). A woman in her boyfriend's BMW went into a spin as she was coming towards us - she bounced off us, then hit the parapet of the bridge and still had enough momentum to knock the top row of blocks off. Our stop was so abrupt that the fridge broke through its cabinet and came to rest behind the passenger seat.

So, secure what you can and hope never to experience that.

As an aside, the van was written off; but by remarkable coincidence we met it 18 months later. In France.

Oh my goodness how awful for you all and also how weird to see each other again. Life is very weird sometimes.
We really are very careful and do pack a lot of things away when travelling. My husband was also in a nasty accident a few years ago thankfully all ok but the contents of our van was up in the cab, and our motorhome was written off.
It’s always better to be safe than sorry

Yes, I can't remember what they were called. About the size of a phone they can be used to "stick" your phone to the dashboard. Also useful to display car park ticket.
Try looking on ebay. I don't use amazon.
For cupboards use soft plastic webbing often used to stop mats slipping on tiled floors.
 
I had some of those pads mentioned in Tezza's second link. I was given one for my car some years ago which I found useful so I bought a set off ebay for the van but they must have been inferior quality because they melted a bit in the sun and stuck fast, tearing and leaving sticky black residue behind on the dashboard when I took them off, it was the Devil's own job getting the black stuff off to sell the van. The original one is still good and didn't leave a sticky mess, despite being parked under the same sun. However, it's never been as sticky as the messy ones were.

Nano sticky pad! Brilliant stuff. Lizzie likes to have flowers so keeps a little jug stuck on the back shelf. See a X reg Hymer with flowers in the back window is us not just me!
 
I buy this stuff much stronger than the small rolls I have it in cupboards under the seat cushions it’s big enough to cut to any size I never empty my kettle or put it aaay when the van is moving it sits in the sink lined with this stuff and never moves.

Thanks all. I will actually buy the roll because I can’t stand all the rattles when moving but I also found the sticky pads (I think) I don’t know how to post the link … but anyway I think these are the ones I saw originally.

To post a Link, ccpy the link itself from the website where it appears then look on the menu bar above your post in the third group of icons from the left. Click on the 3rd icon along [looks like a falling down '8']. This opens a 2 line menu box. In the top one [IIRC it asks for the URL], press CTRL+v keys at the same time, and the website link you copied will appear. In the second line, enter some text to describe the link, e.g. non stick mats. Then press the green 'Insert' button, and your link is there!
