No campervan, will travel

Haven't even got the campervan yet as 'ready for immediate delivery' apparently meant 5 weeks. Just the basic Elddis autoquest 130. We want to take our daughter away for a few nights so we can all learn the ropes but she is only free over what turns out to be half term. We are shocked at the cost then on sleeping in our own mobile accommodation on a site - up to £40. As timeshare owners we could have a cottage for much less than that over a week. Also things seem pretty booked up already.
Live in Dorset and had thought of North Devon/Somerset but that seems quite difficult from the forums I've read here.

Welcome!

Well first off to reduce costs - consider using Caravan Club Certicated Locations and/or Camping & Caravanning Club Certficated Sites.

These are much lower cost than the big sites, but limited to 5 pitches.

There are well over 3,000 such sites throughout the UK. You will need to joint the respective clubs to use the sites, however.

If you don't have (yet) any vehicle recovery for your new motorhome, consider the C&CC - if you join them, you can then get vehicle recovery for any size of motorhome through the RAC. It's a pretty good deal in my opinion.

Obviously you have come to this site because you're considering wild camping.

If you hop over to the Wild Camping Maps & POI Forum, as a Site Supporter you can download Google Earth/Maps data, and satnav data to help you find wilding spots.

There is a fair selection in North Devon and Somerset for you to consider, and well over 1,000 throughout England, Wales and Scotland.

This includes pub stopovers which you may consider a good option.

Have fun, and don't hesitate to ask for advice.
