New Website and a Request

I looked at your front page and thought safari tours. Sorry but that's what I got from the zebras. It just does not look like anything to do with vehicles and electrics which frankly ain't the best of starts.

I have been self employed with a website so I have been round the houses on this one. First impressions really really count.

I know the Zebras could have that effect.
And it may sound odd if I said that the first impressions created by an out of topic image putting some people off is not something I mind actually, but I do have a reason for saying that :)

Thanks for the Feedback though. Appreciate your time looking and posting.

Well, I love it and would be willing to counteract that claim.

We set up a small web business 22 years ago with a completely non-technical name and it worked extremely well for us.
There are too many boring 'techie' business names out there already.

And it's certainly not just down to the name, it's most importantly down to the quality of the products and services supplied and - the most important factor of all - reputation.

It's also worth knowing that this is not a new start-up business looking to get up and running, it's a well-established, pretty excellent business. 👌

This new website is just a refresh of the original, imho, and it looks pretty good(y)

Yes the Zebra's gave the first impression of safari tours, maybe not what your potential customers might expect.
Important note about reviews, they are dated, so it looks a bit dodgy when a load go in on same date, my first thoughts are if people say something like 'last year', or 'good to see your new site, you helped us out some time back'

The site looks really good. Very user friendly and efficient.

The only criticism I would make is regarding the reviews section they do scroll round rather quickly before you can finish reading a particular review. I have seen this on other websites and it can be annoying particularly if somebody has written a long review on something I am interested in.

Personally I prefer to click on a reviews section and read through them at my leisure - maybe I have missed something and you can do that?

Having said that, I do think scrolling reviews do look good on a home page and make it look a more professional site.
For technical reasons (bug, not desire), I have found I cannot change the time from 5 seconds (if the bug gets fixed, I will change that as I think 5s is too short also)
Fixed (y)
I might well add a dedicated reviews page at a later date when there are more to show as I also think that is a useful thing to be able to do 🤓
Done (y)

I agree with Robmac, by default I couldn't read the reviews before they were gone. I happen to know that hovering the mouse over the panel halts the slideshow but I suspect many will not.

Also the text colour on the Shop sub menu in the footer is unreadable because it is white on very light grey.

Other than that I think it looks great and look forward to reading your blog as it populates.
I've added a "Move mouse over Testimonial to pause slideshow" line under the testimonial controls (y)
I have fixed the Footer Menu (the sub-menu is not meant to be in that footer, just the top one) (y)

Yup, the dates are annoying as it shows the upload date not the review date (can't remove due to a weird bug in plug-in. same as the transition time. hopefully will fix this sometime soon 🤞)

I really appreciate all the comments and the level of detail you guys are noticing.
Some I hear and I will admit will not be changing (Zebras!) but I am still greatful for the feedback there.
Others are things I either hadn't noticed or are more 'jarring' than I appreciated.
and on that note, kept looking and I managed to find a "compatibilty" checkbox that was ticked when it should not have been. unticked that and I have been able to change the slide transition time to 10 seconds AND remove the dates (y)

It look very good to me, been right through all the pages on phone and tablet with no issues. The only very minor comment is that the text appears tight to the left margin on the "services" page using the iPad, but not on the phone, but it doesn't impact on readability. Of course that might be a quirk on our iPad settings using Safari. Keep up the good work. Dave

I will have a look at that :) I don't use an iPad, but there is one in the house I can check with.

Couldn't resist a go at a logo revamp - see what you think:

Hi. Looks good David. Cannot remember what parts you fitted to my Moho. Was well pleased with it and parts and labour and price now how do I put that into words in a review for you. I know. You write it i will sign it. Lol. Brian

Just a thought, are you using a home server which is secure, also all pages to download should be in ODF rather than PDF.

Wow, I’m impressed with all the extra work you’ve all given Dave. Best to sort it now rather than find it later.

running on Debian and with lots of security :)

Thing with ODF is that PDF is the industry standard for documents and what everyone uses and what they expect. For example all my links to PDF files are actually not MY files, they are links to data from manufacturers such as Ablemail and Victron.
Thanks for the message though. Interesting.

Yes but odf works across all platforms, well done you for trying, its hard work.

I know the Zebra theme is you and your baby, but, the home page is a Safari or Wildlife website to me too, without knowing you I'd thought it wasn't anything to do with Moho electric/onics and I doubt I'd look further, of course when you do go further then it's all there.
Maybe it's me, if I'm looking for apples then I want to see apples!
