New TV thread

You can have a smart TV and use wifi to watch it. You can also have a Freesat box connected to give you a choice of how to watch it. I do this regularly with my home smart TV. Freeview does not have +1 channels for certain channels but Freesat does.

So I have the options of using wifi, TV aerial or Sat Dish at home. You could do exactly the same in a van.

This is the way to go I think. For Europe though I think it gets more complicated as we used French sims this year so you would need something with a VPN. I would have explored all that more if we didn't already have Jodrell bank on the roof. I can download just about anything thats been on TV or anywhere really from anywhere being a bit of a tech. Its just the live stuff. The more I think of it the more I wonder if it would be just better if the dish just met with a bit of an accident.

I think the one in the van is a 24" Sharp Smart TV, fitted that after trying a spare 32" from the house but was way too big, all this after I accidentally cracked the screen on the original Cello. In any event the TV is rarely used, maybe an odd F1 GP but now I have a 15" MacBook I probably won't use at all.

As you already have a lot of downloaded media I think you may be better just getting a Fire Stick, (or whatever your preferred streaming brand) so long as your current TV can take one. If you get somewhere with no signal you would still have an option to use an aerial or watch some of your pre-recorded media. You can use one of the catchup apps to watch any missed soap episodes when you regain signal.

I was thinking they would be covering holes where Sat etc had been bolted through but the two I removed ar just over dented areas. They are too uniform for it to be dents from something hitting/dropping and I am sure they are from something removed.

Anyway, they reason I am telling you this is, each Ali plate is siliconed to the roof with sealant, (not adhesive) and has a stainless self tapper in the centre. It's the self taper that was the source of the leak. If you are having the Sat removed don't let cover anything like ours was. I realise the low points may not be wanted but I would use some sort of levelling compound (rubber roof paint maybe) of just Sikaflex plate over any dents.

Cheers for the tips. The trouble is I Would be totally dependent on whoever removes it to do a proper job.

That`s how we watched Her Majesty`s funeral in full HD ( 5 hours solid, 9.75GB ) on a 24" smart TV, i wouildn`t have missed it for the world.

Another vote for the Avtex though we tend to go round charity shops and buy a couple of dvds to watch in the van but at home we have sky so we watch sky go on the iPad if we can’t find anything else on the I just wish I could find a way to hook up my iPad to the tv with a bigger screen.

If you have a smart TV, you may be able to use usb to hdmi lead, or even cast to the TV.

Amazon are selling the old fire stick for £19.99 at the moment. I just bought one and have hooked up to our avtex. Works great so far. Use with a Nighthawk Netgear M1 wifi router with an id mobile 30gb sim for £8 per month. Not that we watch much tv when travelling, but better half likes the bake off and strictly.

Yes Barry, i was with O2 direct then and got 25GB EU roaming which was enough for my needs and so long as i could see the BBC news ( other news channels are available ) i was happy. Her Majesty`s funeral was watched at Gavarnie which i know you like as well

I also found that roaming in France was 99% 5G with frightening speeds that we could only dream of here in the UK and particularly in the most remote areas of the Pyrenees which by far was our favourite hideaway.

At the end of the 24 month contract bought at a really good price through Uswitch they wacked the price up so i went back to Tesco Mobile who also use O2 and got a fixed price 24 month contract and £20 worth of clubcard points, this also includes 25GB EU roaming but that doesn`t matter now as we will not be going abroad for the foreseeable future

Nice one cheers. The Reglo sim was pretty good in France. The one place it was useless though was at the Ski station above Gavarnie at 6200ft. We had to switch to our UK Talkmobile sims there and we only get 5gb on them.

Not sure what we will do next year as we will likely do several countries. The funnest TV I’ve ever seen in a motorhome was at Donington Park, some bloke had a massive TV (blocked out one side of the habitation area) he was sat there watching the racing on it.

different strokes etc i live in a park home and spend approximately 7 months of the year away so dont have a broadband account and use data sims at home & take them away in the van with me, [ not a big tv watcher but jan likes her soaps i like watching rugby , l do have a firestick linked to my tesco sim giving me 100gb of data when travelling just returned from 8 weeks in portugal average use has been 18gb with no restriction , l also have a 13’i pad pro with an iptv player with an account allowing me to watch anything big enough screen for me that uses the same data package an english sim so no pvn needed,
