Hi, I am a first time motorhome user. I would love to wildcamp, so joined this site and paid for full membership to be able to find areas where I could park during the day and for one night stop overs.
I have spent the last 4 hours trying to download the POI's onto my Tom Tom as it appears that after reading the instructions you can not just print them off.
At first I thought it was because I was a technophobe but having read other posts, I feel I am not alone. In short youngsters who are computer literate do not usually own motorhomes. Please can anyone help?
Please make it simple as I am in my 50th year and my computer is alien to me.
Thank you for reading.
P.S. I have downloaded something onto my Tom Tom as it has been moving, but it could be anything!
Maybe we should just start a link up to places to stay during the day and for one night stop overs.
Thanks for reading.
Or maybe the wildcamping team should take note.

Places to stay overnight

Can anyone suggest any places to stay overnight whisls wild camping. Many thanks.

Hi Hugo. WELCOME TO THE WC SITE

I am sure someone will be along soon to help you with this problem, you have not said what area you are looking for a pitch for the night

Hi Hugo & Welcome!!

If you click on this link.... http://www.wildcamping.co.uk/forums/poi-file-help-support/12545-tomtom-poi-installation.html

it should explain how to download the POI's onto your TomTom.

As you have found, you don't just print off the POI's as a list, but download them to your satnav device, or onto your computer to view in google earth. Here's another link that covers most problems to do with POI's...... POI file Help and Support

Just make your way through the relevant info at your own pace, and you should find everything you need in there somewhere. If you still find yourself confused by something, just ask on here..... someone usually comes along to help before too long!

And don't worry, you're not exactly an "oldie" with computers. I still remember the days when micro-chips were just something else to moan about at school dinners, and "softwear" was a pair of satin wotsits!

By the way, this is a great time to start using wildcamping spots..... most of our more "dodgy" members seem to be gathering in Wales at the moment, so the rest of the UK should be fairly safe!! :):)

Thank you all

Many thanks to you all for replying and your lovely welcomes. Sorry it has taken so long to reply but I did say I was not computer savvy and it has taken me this long to actually find my own post! I will try all the things everyone has suggested. I did have some success. I downloaded google earth and then even managed to download all the wildcamping areas and took a look at some but sadly by doing so my computer ran so slowly afterwards that I had to delete it. So I have come to a compromise and have decided to book in at a few Certified Location sites. Off to Anglesey on Saturday for 2 nights and have spoken to the owner via telephone. He sounds really nice and it appears if all goes well we may get a field to ourselves! Thanks once again, you sound like a great bunch of people. X

:have fun:hi keep reading the stuff on here mate ive learned loads off of these nutters .... are you on a laptop?

Hi Gaz, yes I am using a laptop and actually I am female, no jokes about dumb blondes please. I am though beginning to get my head around this site so hopefully will be able to learn much in the future. X

If you are going to Anglesey there are plenty of places around the island to wildcamp, it is one of the areas that seems a bit more motorhome friendly.
Also if you are asking for suggesting where to wildcamp then you need to give us an idea where you want to stay or at least then general area.

As for a persons age & computers they are not related, my sister didn't start using the internet until she was over 70 & now she's very computer literate. It's like everything the more you use it the more you will learn, I'm 66 & have been messing with computers for about the last 25 years & at times I have to ask for help. Lack of knowledge is not ignorance so just as if you have a problem & somebody will help you.

Thanks Kontiki. I understand that I should have given a general area when asking about parking spots. Sorry.
I will take a good look around Anglesey at the weekend. Thanks also to Gaz, I am looking forward to getting as much information as possible from this site. I would prefer not to take my laptop away with me though as I am really hoping to just get back to nature. X
