Hi,

I have just upload the new POI zip file.

This file now contains 5,045 locations; 4,709 Wild Camping locations and 336 Pub Stopovers.

This is 112 more than the last release!

But remember it is more than 112 new locations as we also remove unsuitable spots. Please update your copy.

Thanks to POI Admin for preparing this release.

Phil

I alway have a lot of trouble unzipping the download. This month's simply won't extract. Doesn't even ask for a password. Im using OS X 10.8.2 and Unarchiver 3.5.1.

Hello,

I am running Mac OSX 10.8.2 and Unarchiver 3.5.1 with no problems. It asks straight away for the password.

I have tried removing it a re-installing but I still have no problems.

Have you setup the unarchiver preferences to open zip files?

I get a pop-up warning saying, 'The contents of the file can not be extracted with this program.'

I'm using Windows VISTA and had no problems opening the POI using WINZIP.

I've just downloaded the POIs and my MacBook Pro failed to decompress the file.

I checked what was happening and it was trying to use 'Archive Utility' to decompress it (my default unzipper). I changed the programme to 'Stuffit Expander' and it opened with no problem.

There's obviously something different about this file compared with previous ones but using a different programme will probably help.

The file has always been called wildcamping-1.zip when I download it. After a few attempts at extracting it I usually get there in the end, but not this time.

The file is not called wildcamping-1.zip, it is your username-ipaddress-poi.zip.

I would suggest that you:

1) remove all zip files from your downloads directory.
2) go to the POI download page again.
3) Download the file again (it will start with your username)
4) It will most likely automatically ask for your password (email address).
5) then look for the wildcamping.zip file.
6) open that file.

Phil

Phil,

I have tried your suggestions on two different computers with out success. When I downloaded it again I get a 1.6MB zip file called 'wildcamping.zip'. When I try opening it with The Unarchiver I get the warning message saying it can not be extracted. If I open it with Archive Utility I then get another zip file called 'wildcamping.zip.cpgz. I have checked the settings in The Unarchiver and the boxes for opening .zip and .cpgz file are checked.

I suspect a bug in The Unarchiver.

Update.

As I keep trying new things and nothing seemly working I have been sending unsuccessful files to the trash. After going to empty the trash, what do I find there but a zip folder with my user name. Took it out of the trash and it works. This folder has never appeared in the downloads folder!

I've just realised that since the last POI download I've upgraded my OS from Leopard to Snow Leopard so it was probably my Mac that was at fault rather than there being a difference in the POI file.

I assume you're on Mountain Lion (is that 10.8?). I'm finding that Macs are getting more quirky as the OSs progress. You'll just have to keep an eye on that trash can!:pc:

Struggling to open zip file on a win7 64bit pc.

I fail on the password, it doesn't accept it. I've even copied and pasted the password and it rejects it.:(:(:(:(

Don't normally have a problem.

Just download and unzipped on my Win7 and loaded on my Garmin sat nav no problems at all.

Many Thanks to Phil and Chris?
