Yet again the few are stuffing it up. I'm hearing that t he locals are up in arms as the picnic area, the upper level is being abused by people parking up for weeks at a time. Really??

I doubt many of them are on here but on the basis of everyone is at 7 contacts length if you know of them or about them maybe a wee heads up about selfishness?

Will we see more of this type of behaviour as more and more become full time as that seems to be a strong trend at the moment?

I found mentioned on several sites that going full time was great, no council tax, income tax etc... but of course full use of the health services. Enough said.

Times are bad out there for many, a number of people are moving into full timing, not because they want to but because they are forced to.

There’s a rural lay-by near me with three units that have been there since covid, their all nice enough people but they simply cannot get back into homes, either because they can’t afford it or council houses are just not available.

If they're employed they'll pay income tax , which funds the health service

I was there in the summer and the top area was mainly empty.
I would say 4-6 vans in an area that could easily take 30-40 vans.
We spent a night on the lower section looking on to Luce Bay.
There was plenty of empty spaces there also.
As for locals I hardly seen any, in actual fact there are none.
NEB has no dwelling houses apart from one about half a mile towards Drumore.
I suspect that the “locals” are the campsite.
There are a few locals from villages near to NEB, but I fail to see how any of this affects them.

But on the top section some do spend weeks there, and some are in expensive vans.

There was a meeting about NEB held in Port Logan last year.
Robbie Blythe was asked to attend by Dumfries & Galloway, as an adviser.

Apparently following the meeting there are plans to block off the top section, but only when funding is available.

We were there about a month ago and the top was packed, a good 12 vans there. And for me that was crowded. Yes you probably could get in more but that close and it's lemming time in my thinking. It's a sparsely populated area so obviously there are not that many locals but it is "their" picnic spot and I fully get the resentment that they feel intimidated by the vans. When we were there it was clear the septic tank was full , over full as there was spillage. People were moaning about it so I looked up the council, found a number and I had a text later to say they were on it. We were miles away by then but I have to wonder, what is it these days that it's normal to moan but do bugger all about it?? All this connectivity is used to bitch not sort.

Sorry but I have to disagree about it being anyone’s “picnic” area. It’s a carpark, which many years ago used to be a campsite which had over 60 pitches. Dumfries and Galloway call many of their carparks picnic areas including what is clearly a carpark in Port Logan. The fact remains there are no locals, You could easily argue that someone from Stranraer is a local, or port Patrick. The fact that people travel from further afield should in no way allow them to be treated differently than someone who lives closer bye. The carpark is a public facility. Also why should anyone feel intimidated, and what can we do to prevent this if some do. Possibly this feeling of intimidation stems from irresponsible biased media reporting, which has been discussed many times on here.

Well done for contacting the council about the sceptic tank being full. I don’t know how this was not reported by the staff who visit the carpark to clean and restock the toilet most days.

I have sent several emails and have had conversations with those responsible for this carpark. I recommended that they contact Robbie Blythe from Fife Coastal Trust, which they did. They have been in communication with Robbie, and asked him to attend the meeting regarding NEB held in port Logan in March. From this meeting they intend to block of the upper section, which is never used by locals, and limit us to just six vans. This work should commence when funds are available. But I reckon this is a massive error. This part of Scotland is struggling right now, owing to its position it lacks the amount of tourists other similar parts of Scotland receives. The main attraction being the mull of Galloway lighthouse. Limiting motorhomes in an area where motorhomes are clearly not an issue is counterproductive. The people running the Port Logan fish pond, and other local businesses already suffering will struggle even more. And this may lead to what little space is left being overcrowded by motorhomes who sadly will do as they are doing in Fife overcrowding the carpark. The fact is some of the vans parked in the upper section are full timers I have spoken to, they avoid the lower section leaving this for us, and the few locals who do use the carpark. If they close this upper section, I fear they will move into the lower section making matters worse for everyone concerned.

Robbie informed me that someone running a campsite in Stranraer was outspoken at the meeting in March, along with a loud woman who obviously had an agenda against us. But I suspect the main culprits here are the Caravan and Motorhome Club, who own the campsite alongside the carpark. Although they were not present at the meeting I am sure they have made their views plain to Dumfries and Galloway on this matter. Whilst in this site I have heard comments both from staff and campers which are not complimentary towards us. The fact is that in this part of Scotland hotels and B&Bs are almost non existent, motorhoming either on campsites or as we do is practically speaking the only way to stay there. I also feel that what will happen is those full timers will move elsewhere within this area creating more problems than are currently a concern for some.

When you were there and it was crowded,Did you stay and add to the crowd or move on to alleviate some of the crowding?
