This posted on FB earlier today from CAMpRA:-

"CAMpRA was asked by the BBC to comment on the new Aire in Cleethorpes. This was our response:

CAMpRA are very pleased to see this new facility being approved and our 40,000 members are looking forward to it opening.

We are pleased that Cleethorpes Council involved CAMpRA at the outset and have listened to our recommendations.
This will put Cleethorpes on the map as a forward thinking council providing what we believe to be England’s first dedicated motorhome Aire.

Let's hope that other LIncolnshire councils can see the way forward to open similar sites, even if its out of the main season.
The only other one that we are aware of is part of Canterbury P&R site.

Many members do find it strange that the site will not be available over the winter period when campsites are closed, local business are struggling but motorhomes are still touring. But we need to give it time and maybe that decision will be reviewed once open.

As it is not a campsite , and motorcaravans will simply be parked, it would be relatively easy to close or evacuate the site in the events of a potential flood risk."

We love Cleethorpes. (I know, no accounting for taste!) We were sad when the old parkup was closed to us, we stopped there a number of times. But it got very crowded so we stopped going. We knew it would draw attention to itself and action would be taken. There are of course sites, OK sometimes, but that parkup was great. Away from town and right by the train station to the road train stop. Lets hope this is treated better than the old area.

My impression, about 6 years ago , was of a place that needed help .
Was staying in an Airbnb near the front . Windows being broken seemed a nightly occurrence
As said before I found a good pub (and chip shop) so all was well .
New motorhome aire may be signs of a regeneration?
Hope so

At the time, the parking was out of the town at the far reaches of the small railway line. It has now been stopped because it was jam packed every night and I guess, too far out of town to be of any benefit to businesses. Of course, that meant we only saw the town during to day, never in the evening or at night. Being so far out, it mean't that the yobs would have a very long walk to get to us. I can understand why your view is different to mine, we were out of reach and you were in the thick of it. But Papa's fish and chips were fantastic and great value.

That massive car park has been a motorhome stop for at least five years. The first time we went to Cleethorpes, it was advertising outside that it was a motorhome stop. I guess they have just made it official? At the time, it was a car park and was packed out and not very inviting, seems they have started to upgrade the place, but the charges for the summer are very steep.

This has just popped up on fb. CAMPRA

I am pleased to say that Cleethorpes will have a Motorhome site from next year maximum stay of 2 nights no electric but an elsen point I have been pushing for this to happen for the last 3 years

Seems that every scrap of land that can be parked on is gradually being monetised by someone or other, unfortunately 🤷‍♀️😕

Nice small one here in Broughshane near Ballymena, 2 mins down a path to the village where lots of pubs and cafes.
