You just made me seriously consider this option.A friend of mine has a nighthawk 1 with no antenna fitted and was parked beside myself.
I have a tp link mifi unit and we both done a speed test on both our units. I was getting a download speed of 2mbs and he was getting a speed ot 25mbs, so a big difference.
I have now ordered a nighthawk 2 after seeing this

Hi I've just received an nighthawk 2 also I bought from ebay and on first tests at home I've jumped from 32mbs to 107mbs so all good. Can I ask which antenna you bought ?I have been testing the Netgear nighthawk M2 at home comparing it with my current huawei router, and the results are quite remarkable.
I am using an EE SIM card and we get three bar reception here so not full 4 bar.
I also bought a antenna costing only £15 on Amazon. I have only tested internally but it can be used externally.
On average over the day taking six readings at different times my Huawei router averaged 38mgps. The Netgear 96mgps. With the internal antenna this increased to 117mgps. I will now test this on our travels through the winter, but so far I am impressed not only with improved reception, but all of the other helpful features of the Netgear. The App makes using it much easier. I will keep you all posted.
I bought this one on prime but there are others just as good. I find it makes a difference when the router is in the middle of the room with the aerial on the window ledge, but not much when next to one and other. It has a magnetic base which will be handy for the van conversion when we get it. It can be stuck to the side or on the roof if need be. The aerial work better when horizontal.Hi I've just received an nighthawk 2 also I bought from ebay and on first tests at home I've jumped from 32mbs to 107mbs so all good. I am getting a van conversion Trev. Not a lot of use on a GRP roof.![]()
I bought mine second hand on eBay and saved £150. Still expensive but it’s a great bit of kit. Those who are really well coined would go for the 5G version the M5 at £600. The toffs would go for the MR5200 at just short of a grand.Thought my Teltonika was expensive ....
You lot must be well coined
Do you use an external antenna. Also what did you get on your mobile. It's just a matter of where you are and what network you're on. This is what I get here from a Huawei. The 5G signal is much faster, but this is 4G.View attachment 115836
My point as already indicated was it was 5 times faster than the mobile both on EE. I don’t use an antenna also, but I am considering one. Currently we are near Keswick getting 9mbts on the phone 35mbts on the Netgear. No, that's just the router, though signal strengths here are excellent.
Its not possible to go a lot faster on 4G than I'm getting: there is a hard limit of 150mb/sec down built into the spec.My point as already indicated was it was 5 times faster than the mobile both on EE.
