National Trust for Scotland

A few years ago, my parents sponsored a tree planted on Lime Tree Avenue within Clumber Park a NT property in memory of my grandparents

When my mother died, my father and rest of the clan wanted to spread Mums ashes around the tree and were categorically told it wasn't allowed

After a bit of phone calling I got to speak with the head warden who to be fair to him was very sympathetic but this is what he told me and no reason to doubt him but may explain the disparity in membership prices

The NT were happy but because part of the site was a SSSI English heritage pulled a few strings and were dictating the trusts policy on Clumber. The clue of course English Heritage and reading this thread does make me wonder whether there is a hidden levy within NT paid to EH that English members don't see just the eventual premium and why Scottish membership is cheaper

''it's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission'' especially for such a reasonable request, and when asking corporate jobswoths, who can never go wrong by saying no

Apparently we weren't supposed to scatter or bury my Fathers ashes on his parents grave, did it anyway. If you ask permission from those who can say no, they will say no, better to just go ahead and smile sweetly when they start throwing a hissy fit. Although, Izzy reckons I look like a demented psycho when I smile sweetly!:)
