Well I broke down on the M54 on route to Oxford, whining noise smoke from exhaust then oil light came on and it went into limp mode pulled onto hard shoulder immediately had to be piggybacked home most who I have spoken to think it’s my turbo that’s packed in what’s your thoughts and are we talking 0-500 £s or 500 - 1000 £s or is it lots 😥

Sounds like turbo. Depending what damage is done will determine repair costs. If it’s broke up and bits blown through the engine will cost more. Hopefully you stopped in time and will just be replacement unit. 🤞🤞🤞

As said, appears an oil seal has gone in the turbo and it's sucked
up quantities of engine oil, hence the smoke. Peugeot, FIAT
Citroen Turbos go for £250 refurbed then there's labour charges,
say a couple or 3 hours, oil change etc and hopefully none or
minimal other damage. £500 or £600 at a guess.
There are cheap brand new turbos around sub £250, but how
much faith wouldyou have in such? It may be that just the turbo vitals have been
damaged and a cartridge and seals is all that's required.
Get your spanners out and investigate!

Great info Thankyou and no I’m not getting the spanner’s out😂😂 I’ll just pay up 👍

I would recommend a new unit not a recon.

A recon. from a respected source can be as good as new, the non renewed parts have been well tested!
Sometimes with a guarantee as good as an OEM unit. Certainly often preferable to a cheap new
non OEM of uncertain parentage. After all it's probably the original unit that's blown it's seals!
Although it's generally accepted but not always a fact that buying parts from the van makers
franchised dealer can have a ridiculous mark up over a direct source from a specialist or factor.
Pays to shop around.

I'd agree with that and only fit OEM turbo have know many from motor factors fail in a short time

Many motor factors sell OEM Turbos, sourced from the same place as the vehicle
manufacturer. Be it Garrett, Bosch, Mitsu, etc. Vehicle manufacturers (make that assemblers)
hardly make any parts themselves, but they do set standards expected.
Often a factors will give you a choice. The thing is they're not always cheaper than from
the franchise dealer for the same OEM standard part, as I've sometimes found.

That’s crap Annie can’t give advice but hope you’re up and running soon.🤞🏼🤞🏼

A friend of mine blew a seal in the Orkneys, he thought it was OK until the RSPCA took him to court

Oh, poor bill

Aah, whining or was it whistling?if it's whistling it's turbo, and reconditioned is as good as new.

I bought a recon unit from a so called reputable company, first one continuously over boosted, second one had no boost, ended up with Barclaycard getting a refund for me.

Fitting is a nightmare on my vehicle, bought a brand new Garret unit from a motor factor £750.00 and have now done over 120,000 miles with no problems, just wish I'd done this in the first place I ended up paying to have 3 fitted.

Make sure you use the correct engine oil and change with new filter regularly.

The RAC man has just been and checked it out he thinks it’s the oil pump that’s gone he said there was still plenty of oil in it it’s just not pumping it where it needs to go so we will see just waiting for recovery truck to take to garage.
