We have an ariel that was on the van when we got it, it works great with the digi box when we are on hook up but we not when we are unplugged. What can be done? ANy ideas gratefully received.

It may have a 240 volt signal booster in line which will be no good off hookup. Have you traced the coax cable?

It does have a booster, yes. How do we get round this as we will only be wildcamping. DO we need a new aerial?

2 choices:

Buy a new aerial and have the job of fitting it.

or

Use an inverter to convert 12 volts DC to 240 volts AC. A booster only uses a tiny amount of power so a small inverter of around 80 watts should be sufficient.

Is your digibox 12 volt or 240? If it is 240 and already run through an inverter off hookup then it should be easily sorted.

like your second idea better  ...digi box is run thro inverter yes, so what you're saying is run a wire from inverter to booster? Inverter is nowhere near booster on opposite side of van , so will be tricky job.
