Music in your van

Years in industry and a love of loud pipes on my bikes had the desired effect on me ears...so now I bought a Hive Bluetooth speaker £40 which last for hours on a charge from the mini USB , great sound and coupled with the samsung phone with Spotify to download all my fav music and the bosses! AC/DC now on stream..:mad1: can't give up the "where rock lives" mentality. :scared:

We obviously don't have a TV in van, pointless as the one at home would fill the cab area:lol-053:

But it gives great sounds and even when listening to audio books it's clear and easy to follow...

I am thinking of the Halfords DAB radio especially with the £20 trade in deal at the moment, but I'm sure internet radio will be coming to our cabs real soon...do I wait or splash the £80

If I use my phone and Tunein radio App I was able to listen to all stations down in South France!

Get the rad.io app and try radio gatine, brilliant station. Varied music. Avoid the for sales bit around 4pm.
Another is radio paradise (usa) available on both apps.

I've just fitted this in mine, i'm very impressed with the sound quality although it got varied revues online, i've got a 1 tb hard drive plugged into the back of it with enough music on it to drive round the world without repeating!!

So, the numbers at the top are presumably the warp core and shield status (is 13.3 good), and I guess the numbers at the side are phasers and proton torpedos. I'm guessing the fact that it's hidden behind a fence indicates that these need charging before the next confrontation with "KHHAAANNNN!!!!!":lol-053:

Similar to winstonian, I have a Sony DAB+ FM/AM / CD with 7 days continuous play from two 32g IPods that plug into the USB socket, I use the AUX socket to give surround sound for the Avtex TV through 4 pioneer speakers, again using the remote we can operate it from the bed,

after all the hassle of getting a quality aerial fitted that works, I am more than satisfied with reception, just back from 4 weeks in the NW Scotland and always had radio reception, a mix of DAB and FM but also like a quality CD when parked up,usually classical!

My But I am not quite so clear on how some of you are getting away with noise straying outside the camper? If I use the TV speakers, the TV is mounted on an external wall, then you can hear it as plain as day standing outside the van, and the same goes for the door speakers in the cab.

I have fitted large 4 way pioneer speakers to the underside of my front drop down bed above the lounge and gives superb sound without blasting outside the Motorhome, and with the AUX socket connected to the Avtex TV you have great sound instead of the puny speakers output, it all works well without upsetting nearby neighbours,

If u r or were a hifi buff then most stuff like jam jars and anything that has bass boost etc I'm guessing you won't be thrilled with.

After years of motorbikes and loud music (as a yoof, still doing the motorbikes and the helmet roar does her lugs even with plugs) a lot of the v good stuff is wasted on me, but I'd agree that the better the source (of the music and the playing device) the better. Last unit I bought (for oh's car) was a digital radio on a deal from Halfords where I could at least listen to options (settled on a Pure actually, and only coz I liked the sound and the same brand radio in the house has been good).

With digital radio and digital music even with the stock car speakers it's plenty good enough for me... But as stated I'm not a hifi buff (though I do own a 1972 Bang & Olufsen hifi with a pair of bass reflex speakers :D)
Not a high fi buff, but just thrilled to hear any music from any scource , needed cheap mobile music , and the jam jars fitted the bill perfectly, you can sinc the two so they work in stereo with each other and small enough to fit in my bag ....sat on the beach at Angle with the sun going down and glass of vino in my hand , with my jam jars going and good company ( you know who you are ...nice!

I fitted a Kenwood Sub Woofer just in front of the passenger map box. Working with the crossover filters in the Kenwood head unit it's wonderful, but Jan has never permitted me to turn it up full!:mad1:

Think that's the same as the one I fitted - really improved the sound when driving.

From memory the instructions stated not to turn it up full unless you were wearing the requisite backwards turned baseball cap and had pre-lowered the suspension.

I have just equipped my new-to-me Auto-Trail Dakota thus ...

In the overhead lockers above the cab I have fitted:

  • Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakers
  • Sony car radio head unit with USB input, AUX input, Bluetooth and remote control
  • Under dash car radio housing to mount in locker
  • 12v 1.2 amp hour sealed lead acid battery (to provide battery backup to the head unit when the habitation electrics are off)

I have installed an extra cigar lighter socket at one side of the lockers to provide power.

There is no aerial connected to the radio. In order to receive radio I will connect my smartphone via Bluetooth and use the TuneIn app. With my 3 mobile plan, I will also be able to listen to the BBC (and others) when in France.

My MP3 players connected via the AUX input provide music.

To use I open the locker lids, and away we go. It sounds excellent.

The cost has been reasonable - £99.95 for the speakers from SuperFi, £45 for the Sony head unit secondhand on eBay, £9 for the radio housing, and £9 for the battery.

Just tried TuneIn and playback via Bluetooth ...

It's excellent and will provide the perfect way to listen to the radio when the FM signal is dodgy, or when I'm abroad!

i have one of those radios which also lights up blue to match dash lights ,it cost £15 from china/ebay.

I splashed out on a really nice Denon Envaya portable (bluetooth) speaker, and when I bought the van I'd already fitted a Pure Dab radio with bluetooth. When I'm driving , or not , the speaker sits just nicely on the dasyboard top , I can play music from phone, laptop etc as well.........

I had an attempt at upgrading the vans speakers but it was such a b###tard to get in and out I changed my mind , for now and until I'm a lot richer when I'll pay someone else.

As an aside I also use a pair of Senheisser bluetooth headphones , which are the nuts.

Good quality speakers hooked up to a quality 12v amp and equally good DAC and a 1TB media player controlled via tv interface

Sounds the business and even got away with "wasting" 3 overhead lockers:wacko:
