Maybe you are all lucky!!

My self build VW T5 LWB 174bhp has just cost £245 to tax for one year!!!

Had it been purchased new and first registered as a Motor Caravan then I think it would have cost £200 per year as 'Light goods vehicles (TC39)' or maybe £125 as 'Euro 4 light goods vehicles (TC36)'. Yes it is Euro 4 or at least that is how the German emmisions sticker that I obtained for driving in their low emmision zones indicates

It all looks a minefield, maybe I should move to Belgium! Enter by the back door? Does that mean over the border from Luxembourg where fuel is even cheaper?

My van is based on a Peugeot cab.
It would be nice to be able to have a bit more spare (weight) carrying capacity. Any ideas of costs of going down this route? Are we talking £'s/£10's/£100's

Is there a down side when we come to change the van - obviously people who have passed there test after 1997 wont be interested but are dealers likely to penalise me for the change?

Would have thought that a lower tax bracket & higher carrying capacity would be sought after?

Any likely problems with insurance? Any other restrictions with things like speed limits?

My VW T4 Autosleeper 2.5tdi was converted before it was registered.
Log book states "Deisel Car" - £245 p.a.
I have phoned DVLA and been told that it is not possible to change it.
