Moving my Awning

You should be able to do it. Sitting in the Red Lion Llangynidr I just checked pics of Percy on my phone and ours us over the hab door.

Not that we have ever wound it out.

I stayed by the Talybont res. Thursday and last night. I just drove through Llangynidr at about 2pm ish on my way home. I was parked up on Cwm crawnon road for a while whilst I popped into Nelson Cycles in Llangynidr.

i have fitted awnings to vehicles that tapered at the front. put the bracket as far forward as possible, cut a bit of upvc to the triangle shape of the gap, then glue it with sikaflex

Is it not possible to weld the holes up? Cut them out so they are one big hole, and its easier to weld a flush patch in. Grind it flat and then fill and paint as normal?

Probably but that's way beyond my skill sets.

Too many contaminants to tig weld, also very risky. Ebay do a selection of small pieces of al/al, 1mm would suffice, paint same as van, if alloy, primer etch would be required, then Sikaflex for a permanent seal.

I note from another thread you are abroad, maybe you can source a small metal shop around the area you are at?

With all the advice I've had so far I'm now ready to give it a go. The only problem is that if the awning has been fitted as per Fiamma instructions the brackets will have been Sikaflexed to the bodywork in addition to being bolted. I can foresee big problems trying to remove them. I may put the project off till next spring when I'll be in Greece and let the amazing Zampetas brothers loose on it. :)

I take your point regarding sikaflex products and Fiamma don't specify. I assumed it would be an adhesive.

They did a great job as I remember on your rear bumper!!

I'd do it now Pat while your in Spain, as long as you've got a few hands to help you get it off, then try one bracket and see if it's been sealed! as David said use a knife to release it if so.
As you pointed out all bar one will be covered upon re-fixing. Then you have the use of your safari room and the added space all over the winter. Good luck with it, enjoy your winter sabbatical, Sun is shining here in Portugal.

Hi Marc,

They did a great job on my bumper - twice! Also repaired leaking roof, leaking shower and fitted rear air suspension. They're great guys and it's a shame they don't do mechanical servicing and MOTs. Also good for a free stop over with services if you're near Thessalonika.
I still have use of the safari room but it's irritating to have to enter through the outer door rather than just step into it via the Hab door. I may have a go at moving the awning next week.
Winter sabbatical is going well, thank you. Warm weather, nice location and we're meeting up with old friends and making new ones which is what it's all about. Enjoy Portugal,

Pat

Let us know how you get on Pat. Few pics in various stages and when finished with safari room up:)
Be lucky Marc

Well done Pat, how did you fill or make good on the holes from the furthest bracket?
Looks good as it should have been in the first place.

I cheated! If I'd been at home I would have done it myself but I took it to Sangar Caravans in Cartagena where they moved the awning and filled the holes with an aluminium based filler. On my way back to UK I'll take it back, stop overnight and they'll paint it up to look like new. It wasn't too expensive and we've now got loads more convenient useable space (which Phil has just trimmed for Christmas!).
