Its just some fuss kicked up by some parish council but does it reflect the views of many councils across the land? Hopefully not but it just raises more concerns that further clampdowns on wilding are likely no doubt using the new legislation supposedly to deter "travellers" to prevent us parking up and overnighting. They are even citing the pandemic as a reason to ban us, like we are somehow safer and the public are safer if we are herded onto campsites. Two things I want to do. Get a new van and bugger off back to Europe for as long as possible.

Easy target albeit wrong !
I will simply avoid the likes of Devon.
Unless more paid carparks allow overnighting.
dont bo-ther with the council, try the shops. can i put this in your window, and try to park van out side, be ready to mo-vit mov-it, and say. have you got a safe
spot, ok pj,

That’s exactly the correct word - septic.

No small wonder I prefer to be across the water, and I’d love to have a holiday home there, but I’m spoilt for choice where to go.

So where would you fancy, Simon?

France? Spain? Portugal? Balkans & Eastern Europe? Italy? Greece? Somewhere else?

If I had the money without a doubt Switzerland. Never been to Spain so dunno, I’ve been once for a week to Portugal and that’s nice. I’m not keen on the Balkans or Greece.

Nope, it would simply be France. But whereabouts? Too many choices, but I have a fancy of Dordogne or Haute-Vienne

The Dordogne is superb, went there in my teens.
You could buy properties very cheaply 3 or 4 decades ago, not so now.

All that land space! That's what really appeals. (y)
This last year with the pandemic and lockdowns really brings into focus what a small, crowded place it is here!

Plus it's a big agricultural country and they are still very much into good food - despite the encroachment of the likes of McDonalds, Coca Cola, KFC etc.
That's a big thumbs up for choosing to live there in my book.

Let’s not get carried away here I am with Sam on this one.
But I read through the article and this part amuses me.

It follows an increasing number of visitors to the parish who are parking up by the side of roads or in ordinary parking spaces and spending the night, or camping for three or four nights or longer.

Never been to the place but I will bet that cars and other road vehicles outnumber us at least 50-1. It’s the usual a hundred cars in a full carpark and no one takes heed of them. But the 5 Motorhomes are causing a problem. And what happens to car parks at night, they empty of cars, so why bother if there are a few road taxed and insured vehicles of any type left. And as for those who spend three nights that’s easily sorted, and they will be in a minority. As others have stated attitudes towards honest hard working mainly retired Motorhome owners in this country from some is disgraceful. I only wish I had the bottle to drive in the continent. :(

For somewhere to both live and motorhome for the whole year
YES it would be France for me
It can be as cold in France in winter as it is here. I've spent many a winter night sleeping in the cab of a lorry and getting out in the morning can be an awful shock. Even around Cahors and Toulouse can be not nice.

Theres carparks that are allowing over nighting but like everywhere else their jumping on the Covid band wagon

The East Devon Car Parking TAFF, when they met on Tuesday, unanimously agreed to ask officers to review the existing camper van and motorhome policy that East Devon District Council have for their off-street car parks, and called to tariffs to rise, potentially to as much as £30 a night.

Yes I know, my sister has a large villa near Cannes but she won’t go there in the winter because it’s too cold for her.
