Just found out another of the little feckers has got in the van and has been at the snacks that were left in there. This isn't the first time a mouse has taken up residence so a solution is required, has anybody else had a mouse problem that has been cured with either electrical or chemical deterrents. There is a mains supply connected.

in the mean time the culprit has the choice to come quietly in the humane trap or messily in the little nippers I've set in there.

thanks for any suggestions and the witty comments regarding nibbling my nuts and needing a pussy that no doubt will follow from the usual suspects ;)

Cats work very well.
We had a tribe of sweet little mice move into out shed and chewed everything, my husband's saddle bags, his wet weather trousers stored inside, compost bags etc.
I left the shed door open for a couple of weeks and the neighbourhood cats came and had some fun.
The little meeces packed up and left.

I used to get called mean as I would tie the currants to the little hook on the trap with cotton. Little b*stards used to nick them without setting anything off. Trouble is you only need one who knows the way in. You will be lucky if it's just the one as they like a bit of :shag: to keep the numbers up. They can also crawl through the smallest of cracks. So lots of traps in dark corners with tasty currants tied on.

We use an Electronic Mouse deterrent never had any bother our friends had £5000.
or damage to upholstery wiring etc since they they have opted to the same device and no more trouble. Ours lights up so looks like another security device.

Our neighbours had damage in their shed and summer house a few years ago they now use the same device and no more bother.

We stored a lot of bird seed of different sorts and were infested with mice and with so much food available I couldn't get them to take bait of any sort, The wife bought one of these Electronic Deterrents and no trouble since (4yrs now)

mice

Mouse traps are the way to go changing baits regular and wear gloves to keep your scent off the trap and bait.I am lucky enough however to have a cat that has taken residency in the engine bay,its not my cat and always check before startup.Mice will cause costly damage if not sorted.Good luck.

A few years ago when our cat died of old age we started to get mice in the house. Another cat was not an option as we like to spend time away in the van. I bought a mains powered ultrasonic
mouse deterant, sorry I can't remember the make but it looks like a 13a plug with a red light on it.
This device works very well. No mice and I don't think our dog can hear it.
It is left on 24/7 and pretty much forgotten. About six months ago I turned it off and within two weeks we were disturbed in the night by mice. Switched back on and no more problems.

Not quite a deterrent, but the way to catch an errant mouse is to put a wellington boot on the back toe up against the side of a wall, when you try chasing one and they go straight into as it is the first dark hole they see, then you have them. I did not believe it until I tried it but it works almost every time. The cat just looks on disdainfully.

2 of them !!

have had a meeting with mousmat.jpg

the little nippers have been rebaited and an electronic deterrent has been ordered a dual ultrasonic and magnetic type.

one more caught overnight

the mice apparently get used to the sonic waves so the one I have chosen ( pest stop ) should according to one seller has a stop start system although no mention of this on the manufacturers site, if this doesn't work may try the battery operated one which emits a blast every 9 seconds.

I had Rodent damage to our van ,8 winters ago.. they love wiring looms .

Since using electric gizmos,we have not had any further problems .... But :

Portuguese neighbours tell me rodents will not cross a barrier of male urine . The Gipsy horse traders used to pass through the village, each month and as the women set up camp, the men would provide a ring round the campsite , I make a point of peeing on the ground under where we park the van.... it's well away from our house ... making sure that the wheels are well doused .

Electric deterrents work like radio speakers ... the sound will not penetrate solid walls , windows etc. This may explain why some folk say they don't work.

A little nipper with cream cracker bait sorts them out, but I stopped using that the day I found a robin in the trap... To my everlasting shame !
