Just a thought anybody took their motorhome over to jersey just planning something for next Easter and jersey was one of the places I’d like to visit.

Thanks for that. Looks like a lot of hoops to be jumping through and my vans well over the 9.3 meters with the bikes on the back. Ahh well looks like Holland

One of our sons lived on Jersey for a few years before moving to Guernsey. The problem is that you cannot book the ferry for a motorhome without having a booked place on one of the sites. Once on Jersey you have to stay on the site every night although you can use the van while there. To be perfectly honest the roads are just not suitable for a motorhome. Pretty narrow. I didn’t even like driving John‘s landie when we went.
Mind you Guernsey is far worse. We took the motorhome once (to visit son and family en route to France) but once parked up on site we never took it anywhere, using our bikes or borrowing one of the family cars. The roads are not wide enough for vehicles to pass without driving on the pavement which most locals do!

Also Wully I would not want to be trying to find somewhere to park a large A class in Jersey. I would hire a car instead, and leave the van in the campsite. There are plenty of hire companies all competing, and fuel is much cheaper in Jersey. But Jersey is well worth a visit lots to do and see.
Great fishing trips, great beeches, and the weather is normally good there too.

When my son lived in Jersey one of their friends had a huge RV (don’t ask me why!) which they kept at home on the island. As a resident they were only allowed to drive it from their home to the ferry under police escort and they were not allowed to drive it elsewhere except once a month on a Sunday morning before 0800 they were permitted to take it to the main beach road at St Ouen and drive it there for “engine management” purposes!!

Done Guernsey, not Jersey.

At first it seems much more of a faff than it actually is.

Simply book a site, get a permit and book a ferry.

Roads are narrow in places, but not a real issue.

I used to go to Jersey a lot as had family ther e so cheap holidays. Definitely wouldn’t want to be driving your van round a few of the roads over there Wully lol. I don’t know how they would treat a big van like yours but there were restricted times for HGV’s to be on the roads. Can’t remember the times now and anyway it would be about 20 years out of date so no saying it bears any resemblance to now.

Jersey is well worth going though but best hire a car and either get one of the sited tents with everything in them or better yet get accommodation. I have a niece and nephew who are beans but they aren’t living on the island at the moment, over in Tipperary I think. Had some great times over there though.

They used to have drag races along 5 mile road every now and then

A blatant ad for you Wully. My son has a couple of self catering facilities on Guernsey - a wing of his own house and a chalet next door. I suspect he’s not interested in ”mates rates” being a tight bugger like his dad but they’re good places to stay right on the beach at Vazon Bay by the Richmond Kiosk (best on the island by far). If you want to see Guernsey without the van let me know. Just make sure it’s not when we’re staying with him!!
By the way having spent a lot of time on both islands (Jersey and Guernsey) they are incredibly different and I prefer Guernsey by far .

I've been to Jersey which I liked and Alderney which I wasn't impressed with.

I might try Guernsey on the bike and a tent at some point.

We stay at the White House Hotel in Herm and a few years back we were talking to the manager who explained that the hotel didn’t qualify for 5 stars because it didn’t have a car park!! (Helipad - yes, boat moorings - yes but no car park)

This thread has reminded me, it's been 20 years since we were last in CI, have sailed past Herm many times on way to Sark, but never been there. My favourite was always Sark, but it changed after the Barclays effed it up.

And boy did they eff it up. It’s getting a bit better now but a few years back when we went over to see the lawn mower races nearly everything had shut down and the local residents were pretty downbeat. I have always preferred Herm to Sark though - less traffic!!!

Looks a nice place to visit - but not with a 9 Metre motorhome :)

I've only been to the CI once - Jersey I think? - and for around 1 hour. The Condor Catamaran Ferry from Weymouth to St. Malo stops off en-route and you have one hour on the island until the next leg

Herm Island counts as one of the best holidays I've ever had. With two mates and it was just a blast. Got searched for drugs in Guernsey, probably because we looked like three stoners😂
They weren't very good at searching;):)

Always wondered if I should go back then think, nah, it would never compare to last time, mainly because I'm 50 years older and you can't get Nepalese temple balls anymore. Now that really was Cheech 'n Chong stuff. 🤘😜🤪
