Well the new toy arrives on Saturday.My first motorhome, cant wait. Now full of confidence I can fir a solar panel I wonder if anyone knows a good supplier of odds and sods for the motorhome? I'm after the usual, pots, pans plates, etc but also a not to crazy expensive tv. Any advice will be great as me and the missus are heading to Scotland in less than a week

If you say roughly where you are in the UK then people will be able to recommend somewhere.

Hi Mick welcome and happy new toy! Home bargains currently have a range of enamel plates/cups/bowls etc if that kinda thing floats yer boat. Also decent size whistling kettle and various other camping type stuff. Dunno where you are but Pontefract branch had it all last week so assume they all have same stock. Spend at least one night in it close to home first, to make sure you know how everything works - when I got my current one I spent a night in it on my drive, and was surprised by what I learned and realised I didn't know how to operate.

I understand they have shops in Scotland now :-) so I'd just take the minimum and buy stuff as you find you need it.

Go Outdoors have a good selection of campervan accessories and I think you will get a telly there to.
 
Hi and health to wear,use paper plates and chuc em,normal set of cutlery and soft mugs so they will not rattle or cut out sponge to pack normal mugs/cups plates etc.
Bio wash powder for loo rather than the blue rubbish.
Best of all have fun and as others say try one night at home or a short distance away,good luck.
 
take cutlery and crockery etc from home for the first couple of outings, we ALL have stuff at home that we rushed out to buy with our first motorhome and it doesn't get used; melamine set of shallow bowls you can't get enough cereals in, also side plates with napkin rings attached, only buy when you are sure you need it. Andy
 
Don't waste vast amounts of money on stuff (weight) that you will carry around for years and never use. The real trick is to know what not to take. Places like pound shops are a great source of things which you can just throw away after use. Baby wipes have a thousand uses. Small tool kit with gaffer tape, tyre puncture emergency repair, bottle of Kseal will get you home/off the motorway. Two phones if possible with different providers when you are wildcamping. Clothes that are easy to wash and dry. Something that you can occupy yourself with on a rainy day.

Hiya

The Range and Sports Direct both have camping sections that don't cost the earth or have a look for stuff in facebook marketplace as it will bring up 2nd hand stuff near to you.

I would have a look at things your not using at home, charity shops, boot sales.

I found some nice american saucepans with lids at a boot sale, 20 pence each.

As has already been said don't clutter the van with STUFF you may never use. Books are heavy so we use Kindle's instead. Found some great enamelled plates. Far better than plastic and they don't break. Can also be used as a frisby and put in the oven to warm up.

Couple of watering cans :lol-061: Fit all known taps ..

Deep enamel pie plates also good as frying pan lid. We use a wok instead of pans and frypans. Deep enough to boil in and also great for stirfrys. Our rule is everything should have two uses if possible. STUFF is everything else which looked useful but we did not actually identify the exact use when buying them! We did get enamel mugs but they have a rim which causes dribbles...went to the charity shop. Have fun ☺
 
We followed advice to spend the first ever night somewhere close to home.

A caravanning cousin helped us set up in his paddock.
We cooked our first meal and joined them in their house for the rest of the evening, picking up more tips and more wine. We staggered back to the van, struggled to make up the bed.....
10 minutes later, we were on their doorstep, asking to borrow a toilet roll and a towel.
Make sure you have the basics organised first.

Thanks to all for the excellent advice. The first trip to Scotland in the new toy went great and what a friendly bunch everyone is, waving to us as we drove along. The site at Invercoe was amazing. One last request. Unusually it rained a lot whilst in Scotland and when the solar panel is fitted by me this weekend its more wildcamping. I would like a decent tv as I think being alone talking to me in the motorhome will drive the missus to insanity. Can anyone recommend a decent tv? DVD player and freeview. Oh forgot to post I live up north near Durham.

Glad you have taken to it.

Telly wise, if you have deep pockets then Avtex is the top choice bur otherwise Cello seem to do a decent tele.

small first aid kit and reel of insulation tape to hold on plaster as it make them stay on when immersed inwater
 
Very happy with our cello, about 7yrs old now. The only downside is the epg isn't very good, but that may have been improved in the intervening years.
 
Hi there done melimine plates they stain so do the cups waste of money.
pop into Stoke potteries and pick up fully glazed seconds as the pattern not
finished and u won't tell, they are brill had them 10 years no marks or chips
also we got good knives and stuff, reason being you are on holiday and its your food and drink
use the best gear 5 star glamping, £40,000 van or £20,000 don't get a £2 plate
