A motorhome got stuck under one of the tunnel supports at Rouen in Normandy, France on 9 December 2015. The vehicle seems to have gone several dozen metres before getting finally stuck. No-one was hurt.

It can,t be carol, shes used to ducking down.

Same thing nearly happened to me on our first trip to France (probably around 1991) I had a Swift Kontiki, I also had a windsurf on the roof. We arrived at Le Havre & within about five minutes I came to an underpass at a junction & just carried straight on & heard a scraping after going about 50 metres into the tunnel. Luckily a French driver stopped at the entrance while I backed up. Just a bit of a scrape on the sailboard, might have just made it if we didn't have it on.

I have heard of motorhomes getting stuck in the underpass at Rouen before,it's a recurring nightmare for me every time we go through the city.I've been through around half a dozen times and luckily managed to avoid it.

IT IS NOT ME! Actually, on a thread on FB today I did see that bloody tunnel again for the first time....:scared:

I saw it on FB too, was hoping that you wouldn't see it ..... must have brought back bad memories ...... but all in the past now!! And your experience was a warning to us all here! x

I sympathise as it almost happened to us. The road takes you to the tunnels with little warning that they're too low for a camper van.

I noticed when I was there in September that some supermarkets have height barriers now. I can't understand why they'd be keeping motorhomers out? Surely they wouldn't lose the business for the odd few that park overnight?

Think its rouen-ed now but could be fixed with duck tape.

We use a route to the East of Rouen and hardly see a tunnel, not the low ones in town anyway. From Pont-de-l'Arche take the D6015 to Le Port Saint Ouen, stay on the D6015 through Saint Adrien and then join the N28 North East of the river bridge. You are then on the route North.

Ruddy sat-navs again, however if a no tolls route is selected you go down alongside the river for miles and there is a little FREE ferry to take you over the river, a little river trip unlike the pay to go river trip next to it which lasts about the same time and duration.

A 1959 top ten hit by Neil Sedaka springs to mind, "OH CAROL"

You are lucky that is your only reference, I went to the Cinema for the first time in ten years because I wanted to see this film

Two hours watching a Yorkshirewoman trying to deliver a bridge
