Landrover, tents on the roof option is a good one. Have a lot of fun with 4x4. Don't want to live in one for 2 years though. But hey, bring the V8 along yourself, Channa, you can pull us out of al the mud!

I have a Hymer that I need to sell due to moving, I have reposted it. It realy is a fantastic van and ideal for your usage. I have even put an oven in it (proffessionally) so it has all the advantages of a LHD and and oven, full sized fridge.
3 great double beds a centre dining room so plenty of free space even if you leave the back bed up (thats what we do -- did :(
It has air rides , cruise control and is winterised

Please give me a call if you are interested, I could meet you somewhere if its easier, gives me a day out :)

What kinda price you hoping to pay? I have the van at £12,250 at the mo (offers around). If I get full asking I will throw in the safari room, its great :)

Sounds to me with that budget, you need to buy a van. I'd recommend joing sbmcc - the self build motorcaravanners club, but you only get 10 posts for free, then you have to join. The £15 membership may well save you some money. Iveco's are very popular with self-builders and are good workers. I really don't think you'll get much in the way of a motorhome for £3k.
To fir 3 people and a dog in comfortable does also take some space or you'll probably kill each other.
