Looks like the council have decided to allow, overnight parking for a small fee.....

Definitely public toilets....
Not sure about water (never stayed myself other than parking whilst we bought food)

In the area just now . Toilets open all night . Didn't see a tap .
Skipton have same arrangement but toilets shut .
Not sure how local government is organised but appears to be the initiative of Craven District council .
Others should take note !

Maybe as a group via Phil or individually we should write to Craven DC thanking them for their initiative and wishing them every success?

Craven already have several M/h overnight places in their carparks so I expect that they will gradually roll it out across the area.

Incidentally I recently stopped at skipton carpark - £5 to cark a 'motorhome' overnight £2 to park a car overnight - only three marked spaces

Agreed not ideal but for many being officially allowed to sleep overnight in their motorhome (car owners not allowed) is a major step forward

We have stayed this year at Settle same council same overnight rate and are allowed to sleepover but only three bays again but yes a step forwards....:)

And we also stayed at Skipton car park but again three bays only marked in green paint!,,

So its an extra £3 to sleep in your vehicle - an activity which doesnt add a single penny to the council costs?

It was OK cant say that I will be back though, felt sorry for the guy who turned up half an hour after the last space was taken....he drove off again to god knows where

Plenty places to park up outside the village for free so you can save your £3 ....

I take it no one held a gun against anyones head to make them park there ???

I actually thought it was a pretty forward thinking AND not overly greedy move by the council to allow folks to park without hassle in a nice village with plenty to do (I generally struggle to see the attraction of parking in most car parks,
BUT as far as that one goes it's not actually bad ....lots of nice walks/decent shops/variety of food available/pubs nearby etc etc )

Overnight in a town is good

eg for 1 night if you want to have
a meal
a few beers
some wine
hot fish and chips after dark

There are lots of pois in the Skipton area should the car park spaces be already taken.

We moan that Councils are doing everything to stop us but when some do provide space we complain that £5 is too much, they have limited the space, the toilets are closed, no tap, the man didn't come around to wash and polish the vans. I really do despair of the tight fisted attitude of some motorhomers. Rant over.

Correct . I agree its not perfect but it is progress . Particularly , it seems , in Yorkshire . The Ingleton car park does have marked spaces but , unlike Skipton , I don't think you have to park in them . Smaller town so maybe the perception is its easier to be flexible .
Like Whitby these carparks are mostly empty in the evening . Perhaps , instead of moaning , we should encourage these moves . Maybe , if successful , they will offer more spaces ?

If you really are too tight fisted or genuinely hard up to pay £5 parking fee in Ingleton, you can walk up the hill [towards Hawes] and there is free parking on the right as the moors start. The walk back into the village is about 6-7 minutes. Also, if you want a cracking pub, again, just a short walk from Ingleton village on the other side of the river, try the Marton Arms. Home - The Marton Arms - Ingleton Pub, Restaurant and Accommodation Great beers, superb food and an extensive whisky collection.

I think we, as a group, should welcome any move of this sort by any council. I personally don't like parking in towns BUT to have the option is certainly to be welcomed. The number of "No Overnight Parking" signs being installed seems to have risen drastically of late so this makes a refreshing change. OK, so its a fiver, so what,at least you you can be certain you're not going to be asked to move on during the night. No pleasing some people it seems !!

Words out of my mouth.....

Just no pleasing some.

Mistericeman you seem to like a poke about underground. If you are up at Ingleton look up Yordas Cave if you haven't been there already. Its worth a look as the waterfall at the far end of the cave absolutely thunders down the chimney when conditions are right . Easy access and quite safe and not that many seem to either know about it or go to it.

I didnt actually say that £5 is too much - actually I feel its about right for 14 hours in a car park - some of the welsh ones are wanting £9 which IS too much (I stopped at a very nice CL in Wales for £10 inc EHU toilets, bins, black waste, dish washing facilities and a show (20p in the honesty box).

What I object to is being charged extra (more than double) just because Im sleeping in the vehicle an activity which doesnt put any extra costs on the car park provider - its not as if I even need a larger space to park as there were several standard car spaces in which I could have parked and in which I wouldnt have spent the night listening to bits falling off the overhanging trees and landing on my roof!

Yes its good being offered parking facilities now how about not treating us a cash cow?

New motorhomes cost upwards of £40,000 and people complain about being charged £3.00 for the privilege of sleeping in the vehicle. One assumes that car owners are either locals or helping the local economy by staying in rented accommodation or an hotel.
