Hi, we are with Safeguard as they have unlimited European travel.

Hi All,

I have been approached by several insurance companies looking to advertise on this site or offer member deals.

I was just wondering who you are all insured with, so I can decide whos arm to twist for the best deals!

Ever year we shop around for insurance hoping to get better deals, have struggled to find that few will insure American motorhomes. Even those advertising cover for American RV'S will not cover the van based motorhomes.

Can''t comment on the big coach type RV's ours is a Dodge van camper (about the size of a LWB Transit hi-top). Safeguard are about the only option with their compulsory breakdown and "American vehicle excess" the premium is around £650.00 which I think is excessive for a van conversion:(.

Considering spares can be flown in from USA in just a few days which are also cheaper than all equivalent European van parts:) I don't see the reluctance on the insurance companies.

Anyone know of a better deal let me know!

we bought our motorhome last july and insured with safegaurd just renewed with them no other company could get anywhere near there price

Saga ripoff

Saga said yes to my Amercan Motorhome, took my money , then said NO. Still trying to get my money back since last month.
BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY.
Could be some sort of scam!

ps. On the 11 august ,and, after many phone calls, this company finely paid "MY" money back .with no help from the FSA. I am waiting for there junk mail. 3 wheeler.

Illusionary Shield

Hi Admin
Three years ago either through this site or SBMCC Shield Insurance was recommended. I have insured with them for three years, I thought they were cheap at this years £370 incliding Europ Assist. Never claimed and never recovered. Last month travelling on A69 Carlisle to Newcastle, single carriage each way I had a puncture. Called Assist line and they said they had a record of my name but I was not registered for the service?? Had to give my CC details to get them to come out. Didn't return call to say they had sorted it with Shield. Phoned Shield on my return Assist provision assured. Yesterday receieved an invoice from EuropAssist saying they tried to extract payment from my CC account but couldn't due to insufficient data.
Warning against SHIELD.
Recommend phoning assist first day of cover to confirm that help is forthcoming.
Glad I wasn't in Croatia at the time of this breakdown.

Hi Phil I'm with Insurance Choice, However, Frank Pickles, Camptons, and Adrian Flux all came in with very good quotes

Just be carefule with Adrian Flux - we were insured with them for 2 years and then decided to have a change - when I enquired with new co. they wanted proof of no Claims Bonus (my hub had earned 70o/o) with previous insurers. When contacted Adrian Flux they said they did not deal with NCD. So you do not earn any NCD when insured with tme.

The legally is (in England) is that if we had stayed with Adrian Flux for a 3rd yr. and therefore not earned any NCD. When we returned to another insurer, we would have lost all our NCD or at least gone down to 30o/o with the next insurer.

We were lucky in the fact that, we still had a copy of our NCD status prior to insuring with Adrian Flux and we moved after being with them 2yrs and Adrian Flux were able & willing to give us a letter stating that we had had no claims whilst being with them.

If you do go with them, KEEP Your PREVIOUS NCD certificate of renewal.

We're with Flux for the second year, the renewal was more expensive than shield but Flux bet their quote. Insurance choice called after the renewal date, then my truck is a bit out of the ordinary.
A company advertised at the storage place I use which is a cassoa gold facility, they quoted approx. £1k !!!

I'm insured with Adrian Flux on my self build conversion.

Quoted £270 for the year with proof of my full NCD with Hastings. I've got 6 months to do the conversion, which basically means interior walls, bed, table, seats windows and cooking area, so shouldn't be too onerous. Mileage 7,500 which should be adequate for the first year.

I could probably have got a better quote If I'd spent a week phoning around giving the same answers ad infinitum but I've better things to do with my time :D And Flux were pretty helpful with it all. So I'll check it all out next year when the conversion is finished and see who is the cheapest then!

Very happy with SafeGuard and their European breakdown cover works really well - Tried and tested it ! :)

Been with Caravan Guard 3 years. Only went up by coppers each year.

Will stay with them as it is the same price for 5t tag axle as small Elddis. The built in recovery covers big vans of any weight.

van insured with caravan guard for £290 plus £65 for foreign travel & breakdown up to 8 months. Best of the quotes by a long way!:D

hi,there, new to site but I shopped around for insurance and the cheapest was £140 for my ford cortina starcraft camper and that was adrien flux

We are with Saga, but as it's coming up to renewal time I will be shopping around again soon.

This year I needed business use cover on the motorhome, most companies wouldn't even quote. NFU Mutual came to the rescue with a no frills policy at the same price as the standard cover renewal quote from Saga, and I deal directly with the local office 5 miles away :)

BTW If anyone's interested in trying Sureterm Direct, the discount code WILC01 should get you 15% off...
