:wave:Hi not sure if this is the right forum,
Can anyone recommend motorhome insurance including european cover and breakdown, an overall company for price and service
MikeAnita:wave:

Safeguard for us too, good European and breakdown cover, unlimited mileage, but haggle, try and get better quotes and then go back to them.

motorhome insurance

Try Comfort, they specialise in Motorhomes and caravans, good rates and breakdown Uk and Europe covered by the RAC

I was with the same ins company for 8 years with out breakdown cover, I'v just renewed with safeguard with full european breakdown and came out cheaper than my old company.

John.

Another vote for Safeguard - 12 months European cover, including breakdown recovery and they will provide a driver to bring the vehicle home if you become incapacitated. Never found any other company that can beat their premiums for the same amount of cover.

Safeguard again. When we had a problem they sorted it, hassle free.

Richard

Thank you

Hello We would like to thank everyone for there input on the insurance companies.

Just made a claim for a total loss with Caravanguard it was a no fault claim. The whe process was an absolute nightmare. Although they valued the motorhome in December for renewal purposes when it was deemed a total loss they were not prepared to pay out the total sum insured.
Beware!!!

I think you need to say a little more than that.

You say " they " valued the Motorhome in December why was that ?

Normally Insurance Companies ask " you " for the valuation when you are getting the Quote or Re-newing the policy.

Did you by any chance Over-estimate its value ?

Also did you take the first amount offered? Should refuse and quote your price, see what they come back with. Is the book value same as yours? They usually go with that minus the condition of the van pre accident, (scratches/dents) etc.

I'm not a newbe to this game and have had caravans and motorhomeo for over 30 years, but this is the first ever total loss. I had given a value on renewal in December but had a phone call from the insurance company in January to tell me I had over estimated by £3500 and that is what they were covering.
I had to battle with the assessor to get a figure that was still £3000 below the agreed insured value, which was some £4000 more than his original offer. Don't forget this accident was not my fault and it would be my insurance company's job to claim back from the driver who was at fault .
I still had to forfeit my excess, which another company are trying to recover for me.
Caravanguard / Royal Sun Alliance have not helped to lessen the stress my wife and I have had to suffer over the last 5/6 weeks. When I insure the new motorhome a lot more questions will have to be answered by whatever company I use.( it won't be Caravanguard )

By the way the motorhome was only 3years old so was mint.
There was £7000 of extras fitted which the assessor now valued at £2000which was included in his offer.
You just don't know how good the company is until you have a big claim , mine was in excess of 40k.
Just beware of EXACTLY what you get for your money.

We had a no fault accident 3 or 4 years ago, got the work done, without paying the excess and then claiming it back, (as they wanted us to do to start with), but can't see how they can always work in the claimants best interests, as in our case we were both insured with the same company. They should work the same as solicitors and not be able to represent both sides, but don't know how it could work.

NFU are brill, local people talking total sense, great premiums and any issues you can go in and see them face to face, outstanding.

Insurance

Unfortunately NFU will only cover a maximum of 3 weeks abroad.
