Motorhome friendly SatNav?

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, not so much the patronisingly sarcastic ones. Perhaps people who feel the need to assert their greater experience by putting others down may like to consider that it will put people off asking for advice in future. But probably not. It's a shame really, as there are lots of things I'd like to ask advice on from people who have more experience than us, but now I am reluctant to do so, and I'm guessing others may feel the same.
Don't let it put you off asking for advice, every forum has 'experts' who
help a lot but can sound patronising without realising it over something they think others shouldn't need or want, you are lucky you didn't mention having a TV, a gas alarm, a windbreak or a :dog:

I like it tezza.

And equally there are 'experts' who actually do not know what they are talking about. Despite this forums can be a bewilderingly good source of information about almost everything. You learn to weed out the non experts, the self opinionated and so on and get to the real nuggets of excellent advice that abound. Just keep asking questions however daft they appear,

:D that is why I put 'experts' with apostrophes, we can all learn something new and I would rather learn from somebody else's mistakes than my own, especially if it involves spending:idea:

It wasn't pertinent to the op's question and therefore came across in such a way .

i.e. Q: Could I have advice on a Sat Nav please ?
A: Get a map ...... not a very constructive answer

I have to agree, I use a truck sat nav, I also buy a new map every year, if I am touring I look at the map and decide which way I want to go then programme the satnav to go 'via' all the places I want to see, if it tries to send me down a road I don't like the look of I ignore it and let it redirect me later, I didn't see anything wrong with Maingate's post either but we are all different

Where's your spirit of adventure?....

I just use standard Tom Tom sat navs and some common sense, not had any problems to date,I just keep a weather eye out for low bridge signs etc and off I go.

Same here, just add the 'Low Bridge P.O.I.' and bingo, you're sorted. If you follow the signs that say "Not suitable for caravans" you are usually guaranteed the best of views in any area (Some people have no spirit of adventure) :D

Enjoy!

I once ignored a 'No Caravans' sign at the bottom of Sutton Bank with a van on the back.

You pass the first sign and then there's nowhere to turn around.

I won't do that again!!

That's one of the reasons I now have a MH

Trompete

I use the Caravan Club Snooper, based on the truckers satnav. You can enter all the details it needs to take you hassle-free anywhere......no narrow roads...no low bridges....
I always navigate by lat & long coordinates, infallible all over Europe in the last few years.

But beware ... you cannot load third party POIs, such as our Wild Camping POIs, onto a Snooper :(

That`s the same on the new TomTom GO series :(

However, it will be available later in the year according to TomTom Customer Services or so they said when i spoke to them recently.

They also said that if i bought one now it would automatically update itself when it becomes available ( allegedly ..... LOL )

I think i`ll wait to see if it actually happens before i invest in a new one.

only haf id before i invest in a new one.

That is of course if the little darling has enough memory left after an update. My Tomtom only has 1/3 of Europe installed after various update and although Fairytooth tells me he can sort it I have opted to go for the low cost truck units but after looking at Sygic on Android I may opt to go down that path for my next one.
