Motorhome depot

I would never use them, after 50 years of various motorhome ownership, buying and selling all privately, why would you need them. It's just another money making venture based upon the laziness of people today.
We are all being turned into blobs......Just sit there and get everything done for you...

I don't think thats entirely fair. Some people are just uncomfortable selling themselves or wary of scammers etc or perhaps have too many other commitments to dedicate to it.

That's fine for you, you have some experience. In this case a Lady has been left with the task of selling something she knows little about and probably no experience at all of selling a major purchase. I used them because I didn't have to deal with timewasters, tyrekickers and tossers.

I think you should consider what you want before working out the best way to achieve it.

Do you need a quick sale, even though you get less money?
Do you need to sell it without hassle, avoiding dealing with scammers and timewasters?

If the answer to those is No, sell it yourself.

You are not offering a guarantee, so expect to ask 20% less than a dealer would for the same motorhome in your sort of price range.

You talk about insurance and MOT. If it isn't parked on the road, you don't need either. Don't let that rush you into an unwise sale.

Personally, I'd either get it a new MOT now, or sell it with the promise of paying to fix any MOT failure items. Last motorhome I sold I said the buyer could have it with a new MOT or take the risk and I'd knock £1000 off the price, partly becasue I thought it would need a new exhaust for the MOT. He chose the MOT, and it passed with the old exhaust!

This was a few years ago. I'd advertised it on autotrader, which only got scammy sales calls, no proper leads.
I am pretty sure I then put it on an eBay classified ad.

The first person who came to look wanted to fit a towbar, which wasn't feasible on that van. The second person bought it.

Perfect. I used them and was happy with the result. What I liked was that I never met the buyer and so I could never have been tempted to make it sound as if it was better than reality. It had a couple of faults which in fact the buyer could have seen by walking round it, they weren't hidden but with MD the negotiations were purely between the agent and the customer. I wanted to sell the camper for cash, i.e. not part exchange it at a dealer. I tried three dealers who offered £45k, £45k and £47k. Motorhome Depot got me £50k so I was £3k better off than selling to a dealer. I don't know what the buyer paid, but as it was a £68k-in-a-showroom motorhome I am sure he got a good deal. So I was happy and so was the buyer and so was the Motorhome Depot agent. The dealers who would have made £10k profit were less happy. Shame, that :cry:
 
I was thinking of less hassle by using motorhome depot, you must be a dab hand at photos and descriptions 😂
Had dealings with them when selling my swift escape,Lovely on the phone and made arrangements with them to view the van.He arrived 40mins early and from the get go absolutely no people skills. I was sorting through the folder with the paperwork when he arrived and because I wasn’t going fast enough, he literally went ape s..t and said it wasn’t good enough and that he had traveled a long distance and all this stuff should have been ready. I told him to get out of my vehicle and he looked at me a bit perplexed so I asked him if he understood get feckin out of my vehicle.Never again and I wouldn’t ever recommend them. I put in a complaint but never heard anything back.
 
I only dealt with the main base in Mansfield and two of the franchises, one from Preston and one from Harrogate, very different, both retired car salesmen, one agreed to drop the commission to £2k as he had a possible buyer who knew how they worked, and the van had only been up for sale for 5 days, he didn't want to pay it at all.

It's a weird set up.

Is there a local small Motorhome dealer near you like there is near us, which will broker it for you, they put it on their forecourt and take their commission when sold. No hassle for you. Have a look on google

I enjoyed immensely the buying, fixing up, and selling part of it, and in amongst I built my own, sold it, bought it back a few years later and sold it again all at a good profit. We've had the present van for about 4 years now.

Make sure you check them out thoroughly.
Many years ago I was a witness in a fraud trial at The Old Bailey. The defendant was sent down for "selling" motorhomes on one of his forecourts. He told customers that their van was being sold down south, when of course it had already sold and he hadn't passed on the proceeds.

The buyer of the self build lived on Alexandra Palace Rd in London, and about 4-5 years ago they (I think) change the zoning and what vehicles you could have parked on the road outside you house, at least that's what he told me, he paid £18k for it, reall good spec, not seen better in a self build since, Link to pics>>> https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/sv6z...FZvs9PQk?rlkey=n7rt5etixbaqfcrzb426vwet0&dl=0 <<< hence when he rang and offered it to me I wanted it, we nogotiated at £10, but when it turned up outside our house, as it had 150k ish on it when I sold it, the dual mass flywheel was knackered, how he got it up here is beyond me, the inside was a total mess, really bad, TBH, I wasn't sure I even wanted it back, but I was fed up of buying vans I didn't like only to sell them on, so we arrived at £6k, I gave him a lift to the station, I got stuck into making it presentable which took weeks of cleaning and mending all the stuff he'd broken, Liz came down and saw the problem that caused its doom, I'd not thought about it, but we don't sleep in a big bed any more, we prefer singles and these were too short by at least six inches, So I put it on ebay again, phone went mad as it did first time, I put it up at £18k and took £16k which we put inthe the van we have now.
